In 2027, February half term falls inside Ramadan. Which means you are booking a Ramadan trip whether you wanted one or not.
Most English authorities show half term as Monday 15 to Friday 19 February 2027. Ramadan begins around 8 February, subject to moon sighting.
So a seven night trip departing the weekend before half term spans roughly the 13th to the 20th, which straddles the end of the first ten nights and the start of the middle ten.
Between £749 and £825 per person depending on your departure day, rather than the £499 a normal February half term would cost.
Half term lands on the calmest part of Ramadan, not the busiest. The last ten nights, which are the crowded and expensive ones, do not begin until around the 28th.
So if you were ever going to take children to Ramadan, this is the right part of the month, and the school alignment means you do not have to take them out of school to do it.
The short version Half term 2027 is 15 to 19 February, inside Ramadan. It straddles the first and middle ten nights, so £749 to £825 rather than £499. It is not the last ten nights. Those begin around the 28th and are a completely different proposition. Ramadan with children is genuinely demanding and there is an honest section on it. If you did not want Ramadan, Easter 2027 is £499 and it is the better family trip. |
Ask us which Ramadan window your dates fall in
Approximate dates | Ramadan window | 7 nights, 3 star |
|---|---|---|
8 to 17 February | First ten nights | From £749 |
15 to 19 February | UK half term | Straddles both |
18 to 27 February | Middle ten nights | From £825 |
From around 28 February | Last ten nights | From £1,199 |
Half term sits in the first half of Ramadan, well clear of the last ten nights.
Depart on Saturday the 13th and most of your trip sits in the first ten nights at £749. Depart on the 20th and most of it sits in the middle ten at £825.
That is roughly £76 per person, or £300 across a family of four, for a week either way.
Every date here depends on moon sighting and could move by a day. If your dates sit near a window boundary, we price both possibilities rather than gambling on one.
The earlier departure, on the weekend of the 13th. Cheaper, calmer, and it keeps you further from the build toward the last ten nights.
Your own authority dates. Academies set their own, Welsh councils differ, and Scottish half term is frequently a different week entirely.
Then this is a rare alignment and it is worth taking.
Ramadan with school-age children normally means taking them out of school, because Ramadan moves through the calendar and rarely coincides with a UK holiday.
In 2027 it does. That will not happen again for years.
A full Ramadan Umrah with your children, inside a school holiday, in the calmest part of the month, at £749 to £825 rather than the £1,199 the last ten nights would cost.
The reward for performing Umrah in Ramadan is widely understood to apply across the whole month rather than only the final third. Anything beyond that is a question for someone qualified.
What we can say practically is that the first half of the month is the manageable half, and it is where half term lands.
A February Ramadan means around eleven and a half hours of fasting at 22 to 30 degrees. A summer Ramadan means over thirteen hours at 40 plus.
This is the mildest version available, which matters considerably if anybody in your party is fasting while walking to the mosque five times a day.
Ramadan moves about eleven days earlier each year, so it will drift back toward summer. If a Ramadan Umrah has been on your list and the heat put you off, this is the part of the cycle to do it in.
Full detail on the timings in our February guide.
£749 to £825 against the £499 that February half term would cost in a normal year. That is £250 to £326 per person, or £1,000 to £1,300 across a family of four.
A busier Haram, a completely different rhythm to the day, and parents fasting while managing children who are not.
None of which is a problem if Ramadan is what you wanted. All of which is a problem if you were expecting a normal winter family trip.
Easter 2027 at £499. Good Friday is 26 March and most English authorities show holidays from the 26th of March to the 9th of April.
That sits entirely inside the post-Ramadan window, with the calmest Haram since November, comfortable weather and two full weeks rather than one.
February half term | Easter 2027 | |
|---|---|---|
7 nights, 3 star | £749 to £825 | From £499 |
Length of break | One week | Two weeks |
Crowds | Ramadan | The calmest since November |
Temperature | 22 to 30 | 25 to 33 |
Saving per person | £250 to £326 | |
Family of four | £1,000 to £1,300 |
If Ramadan appeals, take half term. If you wanted a normal family trip, take Easter, and it is a considerably better one this year.
Full detail on the Easter booking guide.
October half term at £499, which is the best school holiday window in the UK calendar in any year. Detail in our October guide.
The section this page exists for, because it is what a family in this position actually needs to know.
Days become quiet and nights become the main part of life. Iftar at Maghrib, Isha, then Taraweeh which runs long. Most people sleep in the middle of the day rather than at night.
Their sleep pattern goes with it, or it does not and they are exhausted. Plan for the first two days to be difficult while everybody adjusts.
The practical challenge nobody writes about. You are fasting, your six year old is not, and they still need feeding at normal hours in a city where the restaurants are shut until Maghrib.
Take food with you. Snacks, fruit, sandwiches from the hotel breakfast if there is one. Hotel room service and shops operate but the choice during daylight is limited and children get hungry on their own schedule.
In your room rather than in public spaces, which is the normal courtesy during fasting hours.
The genuinely wonderful part. Food laid out across the mosque floor daily, free, and shared with whoever is beside you regardless of language.
Children respond to it in a way they do not to much else on the trip, and it is the thing families remember.
Go early to get a spot, take wet wipes, and expect it to be busy and generous and slightly chaotic.
Long. Genuinely long, and young children will not last the full prayer.
Most families with young children pray part of it and leave, or one parent stays and the other takes the children back. Both are completely normal.
The widely taught position is that fasting is not obligatory before puberty, and many families have younger children practise partial fasts.
Whether and how much your children fast is a family decision and a question for someone qualified rather than for us. What we can say is that eleven and a half hours at 22 to 30 degrees is the mildest version they will encounter.
Busier than a normal winter trip and nothing like the last ten nights. Ground floor Tawaf is workable in the first half of the month, which matters enormously with children.
Ramadan with children is demanding and it is doable in the first half of the month. It is not doable in the last ten nights, and the fact that half term falls where it does is what makes this year workable at all.
Window | Crowds | Price | With children |
|---|---|---|---|
First ten nights | Manageable | From £749 | The best of the three |
Middle ten nights | Busier | From £825 | Workable |
Last ten nights | The densest of the year | From £1,199 | We would advise against |
Roads close to traffic for periods, hotel shuttles stop or relocate, and the mosque fills hours before Maghrib. With children that is a genuinely difficult environment rather than a busy one.
Full detail on that window in a separate post.
It lands well clear of it. The last ten nights do not begin until around the 28th of February and half term ends on the 19th.
You get Ramadan at the Haram with your children, in the manageable half, without the road closures and without the peak pricing.
In the last ten nights we insist on under four hundred metres. In the first half of Ramadan, under five hundred is comfortable and under seven hundred is workable.
With children we would still aim for five hundred, for the same reason as any family trip. Being able to take a tired child back mid-afternoon is what makes it work.
Harder while fasting, and workable in the first half. Go in the morning and keep it short. Most of the Makkah itinerary is standing outside at unshaded sites.
The weekend of the 13th rather than the 20th. Cheaper, calmer, and further from the build toward the last ten nights.
Seven nights, because half term is one week and about nine days with the weekends either side.
Ten nights is possible if you can take a couple of days either end, and in Ramadan we would not push you toward it. The rhythm is demanding and a week is enough with children.
Most of it in Makkah. Four Makkah nights and three in Madinah is our default for seven, and in Ramadan the Makkah half is where the experience is.
Madinah in Ramadan is calmer and genuinely pleasant, and it is not why you came.
Four star, at £899 to £999 depending on which window your dates fall in. Under five hundred metres.
The step from three star roughly halves your walk and removes the shuttle. With children in Ramadan that matters more than it does in a normal month.
Quad sharing for a family of four, which is a private room and the lowest price. Five or six people need two rooms and connecting rooms should be requested at the enquiry.
If you are | Book | From |
|---|---|---|
Two adults, two young children | 7 nights, 4 star, depart the 13th | £899 |
Two adults, teenagers | 7 nights, 3 star, depart the 13th | £749 |
Wanting more time | 10 nights, 4 star | On request |
Five or six people | Two rooms, ask early | On request |
Room only or breakfast. Not full board, because free iftar is laid out at the Haram daily and full board adds £15 to £30 per person per day for meals you will not eat at the hours they are served.
Detail on the all inclusive page.
Ramadan shifts about eleven days earlier each year against the Gregorian calendar, because the Islamic calendar is lunar and runs shorter.
Year | Ramadan approximately | February half term |
|---|---|---|
2027 | Early Feb to early March | Inside, first and middle ten |
2028 | Late January to late February | Still inside |
2029 | Mid January to mid February | Right at the end, or just after |
2030 | Early January to early February | Clear of Ramadan |
February half term is a Ramadan trip for the next couple of years. By around 2030 it becomes what it used to be, which is one of the better family windows on weather and cost.
October half term, which never moves and is £499 every year. And Easter while it sits in the post-Ramadan window, which it does for several years yet.
All directional and subject to moon sighting. If a specific year matters to you, ask us rather than planning from a table.
How all six UK school holidays shift across the next few years is in our school holidays guide.
Window | 3 Star | 4 Star | 5 Star |
|---|---|---|---|
Depart around the 13th, first ten nights | From £749 | From £899 | From £1,049 |
Depart around the 20th, middle ten nights | From £825 | From £999 | From £1,175 |
A normal February half term, for comparison | From £499 | From £629 | From £690 |
Easter 2027, the alternative | From £499 | From £629 | From £690 |
Seven nights, adult rate, per person, quad sharing. Children aged two to eleven pay a reduced rate sharing with two adults. All Ramadan dates subject to moon sighting. Includes return flights, both hotels named in writing with the distance in metres and the nearest gate, the Saudi Umrah visa, all three transfers and guided Ziyarat in both cities.
Less than four times the adult rate. Children two to eleven pay a reduced rate, under twos are lap infants, and quad sharing means one room.
Send dates of birth rather than ages and we will build the real figure, which is almost always lower than the one people calculate.
Roughly £76 per person, or £300 across a family of four, between the 13th and the 20th.
£99 per person, so £396 secures a family of four, and it fixes your price in writing.
We check comparable UK packages every month and sit £20 under the lowest we can find for the same nights and the same hotel tier.
The second. If Ramadan is what you want, this year is a gift. If it is not, you are paying £250 to £326 per person for something you did not ask for.
The last. It is the single most practical thing on this page for a family with young children in Ramadan.
Half term is 15 to 19 February and Ramadan begins around the 8th. There is no version of February half term 2027 that is not inside it.
It straddles the first and middle ten nights, well clear of the last ten which begin around the 28th. That is what makes it workable with children.
Depending on your departure day, against £499 for a normal February half term. Depart the weekend of the 13th for the lower end.
The day inverts, you will be fasting while they are not, and Taraweeh is longer than they will last. Iftar at the Haram is the part they will remember.
Easter 2027 at £499, two full weeks, post-Ramadan, with the calmest Haram since November. It is the better family trip this year by a distance.
Ask us to price half term against Easter
It is the only question that matters for this window. If you did, half term 2027 is a rare alignment and we will build it properly around the calm half of the month.
If you did not, we will show you Easter alongside it, because £499 for two weeks in a post-Ramadan window is a considerably better family trip and you should see both before you decide.

Around £76 per person, or £300 across a family of four.
Every one depends on moon sighting. If your dates sit near a boundary we price both possibilities.
A rare one. Ramadan normally means taking children out of school and in 2027 it does not.
Rarely, because Ramadan moves about eleven days earlier each year. It will not align again for years.

£250 to £326 per person, and you get twice the break.
October half term at £499, which is the best school holiday window in the UK calendar in any year.

Demanding and doable in the first half of the month. Not doable in the last ten nights.
