Winter Umrah Packages: Book Early and Save

Winter is the season where booking early matters least, and there is one fortnight inside it where it matters more than almost anywhere else.

The paradox

Winter has the best conditions of the year. Makkah at 20 to 32 degrees, the longest nights, the quietest Haram, and the floor price of £499.

And it is the easiest season in the calendar to book. November has genuine availability at good properties three or four weeks out, which is not true of any other month.

Why that is

Because there is no global demand event in the winter cycle at present, only one UK school holiday, and Britain spends January recovering from December rather than booking travel.

The exception

Christmas. It is the tightest winter window and it needs booking by September, which is three months earlier than the rest of the season.

So the honest answer for winter is: book three months out unless you want Christmas or you want to spread the cost.

The short version

Most of winter needs three months, and November genuinely works at four weeks.

Christmas needs September, which is the one exception and it is a large one.

Winter runs £499 to £799, and only the Christmas fortnight is at the top of that.

Booking a year ahead for a £499 November trip ties up money for no benefit, unless you want the payment plan.

The two traps: January’s first six days and a December trip crossing the 17th.

What that shows

Ten of the twelve winter weeks need three months and are forgiving beyond that. Two of them need six and are not.

The Christmas fortnight

It is not just Christmas week. The pricing runs from schools breaking up around 17 December through to the first week of January, which is about eighteen days.

And it is the second most expensive window in the calendar after the last ten nights of Ramadan. Detail in our Christmas booking guide.

The rest

November, early December, mid to late January and early February are among the easiest bookings in the year. Broad availability, floor pricing, and genuine choice three months out.

The two traps

A ten night trip departing 8 December returns on the 18th and gets the floor price. Departing on the 12th, it returns on the 22nd and the whole booking prices at the Christmas rate.

And in January the first six days are still Christmas pricing at £799. The floor does not return until around the 10th.

Why winter is easy to book

No global demand event

In the current cycle Ramadan sits in February and Hajj in May. So the winter months have nothing in them that draws pilgrims from every origin simultaneously.

That is the single biggest reason. It will change as the Islamic calendar moves, and for now it holds.

One school holiday, not two

Christmas is the only UK school break in the whole season. November has none at all, which makes it the emptiest month in the calendar.

Compare that to spring, which has February half term and Easter, or the autumn, which has October half term.

Britain is broke in January

Said plainly. The country has just spent on Christmas and the appetite for a significant purchase is at its annual low, which suppresses UK demand for the cheapest month of the year.

It is not an escape month yet

A genuine factor. In February and March people are escaping the tail end of a British winter. In November it is grey rather than punishing and the pull is weaker.

And agencies are selling elsewhere

From September through December, operators are busy booking the following Ramadan and Christmas. Nobody is promoting the month they are currently in.

What that adds up to

A season with the best conditions in the year, the lowest prices, and almost no competition for the hotels. Which is an unusual combination in any travel market.

The case for not booking a year ahead

The section that costs us nothing and is worth saying.

What a deposit does

It fixes your price and it commits your money. On a peak window that is a good trade because the price would otherwise rise substantially and the hotel would go.

What it does in November

Very little. November is £499 twelve months out and £499 three months out, because there is nothing pushing it up.

So booking a year ahead locks a price that was not going to move, in a month where the hotels were not going to run out.

What you give up

Flexibility. Circumstances change over a year and a deposit is committed at the moment you pay it. On a peak window that risk is worth taking. On an uncontested month it usually is not.

What we would actually suggest

Three months out for most of winter. That gets you full choice of hotel, the floor price, and you are close enough to your travel date to know your circumstances.

And the exception to the exception

If you want to spread the cost, book early anyway. Not for availability, for the payment plan. There is a section on that below.

Why we are telling you this

Because we told you Ramadan needs a year and summer needs seven months, and both are true. If we said the same about November it would be obvious sales advice and you would rightly discount everything else.

What early booking does buy in winter

The payment plan

The genuine reason, and for a lot of households the only one that matters.

A £99 deposit and the balance spread interest free across the months to eight weeks before departure. A £499 package booked a year out is around £40 a month. Booked at three months it is £200.

About £350 a month

Who that suits

Anybody saving toward the trip rather than paying from savings. Forty pounds a month is a manageable household commitment. Two hundred is a different conversation.

The very close-in properties

The other genuine reason. Haram facing under two hundred metres goes first in any month, even quiet ones, because the supply is small and constant.

If you want that specific band, book six months out regardless of the season.

Long trips

Twenty-one days needs more allocation to line up than seven, so it wants a longer lead even in an easy month. Six months for a three week winter trip is sensible.

And group bookings

Block rooms are harder to secure than single ones at any time of year. Five or six months for a mosque group in winter, against three for an individual booking.

Christmas, the one exception

Why it is different

Every UK family with school-age children is looking at the same eighteen days, and so is much of Europe because the school break is shared.

It is not a religious peak. It is a school holiday peak, and it is the only one in the entire winter.

The deadline

September for Christmas, August for New Year departures around the 27th to the 30th, which are the tightest part of the window.

What runs out

Connecting rooms first, then quad rooms, then close-in properties, then direct flights. The price is high from the start and does not climb much.

The question worth asking first

Whether you need the window at all. The first fortnight of the same month is £499 against £799, in identical weather.

If you have no school constraint, that is £300 per person or £1,200 across a family of four for travelling a week earlier.

And if you do

Book by September, aim for the 18th to the 22nd rather than New Year, and ask about connecting rooms at the enquiry if you are five or six people.

The full Christmas timeline is in a separate post.

Winter has the best late availability in the year

The claim

If you need to travel at short notice, winter outside the Christmas fortnight is the season to want. November specifically is the best month in the calendar for it.

Why

Because there is no competing demand. Group bookings still shrink and allocations still release, and there is nobody waiting to absorb them.

So what comes back to the market in November is available rather than instantly taken.

What that looks like

Genuine availability at close-in properties three or four weeks out, at the floor price. That is not true of any other month.

The constraint that remains

The vaccine. The meningococcal ACWY certificate must be dated at least ten days before you arrive, so without one you are three to four weeks away regardless of what is available.

Which is why we say get it now if you intend to travel at all this year. It turns you from a four week traveller into a ten day one.

And the payment position

Inside eight weeks the balance is already due, so a short notice winter booking needs paying in full rather than on a deposit.

On a £499 package that is manageable. On a £799 Christmas booking in November it is less so.

How late availability actually works

Where it comes from, when it appears and how to be first to it is covered in a separate post.

The two winter traps

Trap one: the December 17th line

English schools break up around 17 December, and everything from that weekend prices at £799 rather than £499.

How people get caught

A ten night trip departing on the 12th returns on the 22nd. The whole booking prices at the Christmas rate even though most of it is in the cheap fortnight.

The fix

Build it to finish before the 17th. A ten night departure on the 8th returns on the 18th and gets the floor price, and it is the last booking that does.

What to tell us

Your intended length as well as your departure date. We will build it to land on the right side of the line.

Trap two: the first week of January

The floor price does not return on the 1st. It returns around the 10th, once schools have gone back and the Christmas wave has cleared.

What that costs

A departure on the 3rd is around £799. The same trip on the 12th is £499. Nine days and £300 per person.

How people get caught

They search for January, see the floor price advertised, and book the first week without realising it is priced as the tail of Christmas.

The fix

Depart after the 10th. If you cannot, book it early, because it is a school holiday window and it clears the same way December does.

And the month with no traps

November. The whole month is £499 and there is nothing to watch for, which makes it the most forgiving month in the calendar to book without checking.

The whole set, compared

Five seasons, five different answers. This is the payoff of writing them all.

What the pattern says

Booking advice is not one thing. It depends entirely on what is competing for the same rooms and on whether distance matters in that window.

The two urgent ones

Ramadan and summer, and for opposite reasons. Ramadan because roads close and shuttles stop. Summer because 43 degrees makes distance physical.

The two moderate ones

Christmas and Easter, both driven by school holidays rather than by conditions. In both, being further out costs convenience rather than the trip.

And the relaxed one

Winter outside Christmas. Three months, and genuine late availability beyond that.

Every window has an alternative next to it

Ramadan has the first ten nights. Christmas has the first fortnight of its own month. Summer has October half term. Easter has the term time weeks before it.

Winter is the only one where the window itself is the alternative.

Where to spend in winter

Nights rather than the hotel. At 20 to 32 degrees the walk from a three star is comfortable, so the distance premium has lifted and time is worth more.

Ten nights at three star, £545, costs less than seven at four star, £629, and in this season the ten nights is clearly the better trip.

The best winter booking

Fourteen nights at three star in November, early December or mid to late January. £625, at £45 a night, in the best conditions the calendar offers.

How we price

We check comparable UK packages every month and sit £20 under the lowest we can find for the same nights and the same hotel tier.

What to do now

  1. Decide whether you want Christmas. If not, the rest of winter is £300 cheaper and much easier to book.
  2. If you do, book by September, and by August for New Year.
  3. If you do not, three months is enough. Full choice, floor price, and you know your circumstances.
  4. Book earlier only if you want the payment plan. Forty pounds a month against two hundred is the genuine reason.
  5. Check the December line and the January one. A trip crossing the 17th, or departing before the 10th of January, prices at £799.
  6. Sort the ACWY vaccine now if you intend to travel this season. It turns you from a four week traveller into a ten day one.
  7. Pack for Madinah. The nights are the coldest of the year and it is the one thing people consistently get wrong.

The one that saves the most

The first. For anybody without school-age children, avoiding the Christmas fortnight is £300 per person and it is the largest single decision in the season.

And the one that costs the least

The vaccine. It is £50 to £80 and it is what makes winter’s genuine late availability actually usable by you.

The summary

Winter is the easiest season to book

Three months is enough for ten of the twelve weeks, and November genuinely works at four.

Christmas is the exception and it is a large one

Eighteen days at £799 needing September, in a season where everything else is £499 needing three months.

Do not book a year ahead for a quiet month

It locks a price that was not going to move and ties up money for no benefit. Unless you want the instalments, in which case book early for that reason and not for availability.

Watch the two lines

A December trip crossing the 17th, and a January departure before the 10th. Both price at £799 and both are avoidable.

And winter has the best late availability in the year

November specifically. Genuine choice at close-in properties three or four weeks out, provided you already have your ACWY certificate.

Booking winter: 56 questions answered

Grouped by topic. Direct answer first. Term dates vary by authority and nation, so check your own.

How far ahead

How far ahead should I book winter Umrah?

Three months for most of the season. Christmas needs September, which is six months.

Can I book November at four weeks?

Genuinely, and get a good hotel. It is the best month in the calendar for a short notice booking.

Why is winter so easy to book?

No global demand event in the current cycle, only one UK school holiday, and Britain spends January recovering from December.

Which winter weeks are hard?

Two of twelve. The Christmas fortnight from around 18 December to 3 January, and the first week of January which is priced with it.

Should I book a year ahead?

Only if you want the payment plan. For availability it ties up money for no benefit in a month that was not going to run out.

What does three months get me?

Full choice of hotel, the floor price, and you are close enough to know your circumstances.

Why are you telling me not to book early?

Because we said Ramadan needs a year and summer needs seven months. Saying the same about November would be sales advice rather than information.

What early booking buys here

Does the winter price rise if I wait?

Barely. November is £499 twelve months out and £499 three months out.

So what is the reason to book early?

The instalments. A £499 package a year out is around £40 a month. At three months it is £200.

What would fourteen nights cost monthly?

£625 booked a year out is about £53 a month. At three months it is £263.

Who does that suit?

Anybody saving toward the trip rather than paying from savings.

Is there anything else that runs out?

Haram facing under two hundred metres, because the supply is small and constant. Book that six months out in any season.

What about long trips?

Twenty-one days needs more allocation to line up, so six months even in an easy month.

And group bookings?

Five or six months for a mosque group, against three for an individual booking.

What do I give up by booking a year ahead?

Flexibility. Circumstances change and a deposit is committed the moment you pay it.

Christmas

Why does Christmas need September?

Because every UK family with school-age children is looking at the same eighteen days, and so is much of Europe.

Is it a religious peak?

No. It is a school holiday peak and it is the only one in the whole winter.

What runs out at Christmas?

Connecting rooms first, then quad rooms, then close-in properties, then direct flights.

Does the Christmas price climb?

Less than people expect. It is high from the start.

What should I ask before booking it?

Whether you need the window. The first fortnight of the same month is £499 against £799.

How much does avoiding it save?

£300 per person, or £1,200 for a family of four.

When should I book New Year?

By August. Departures around the 27th to the 30th are the tightest part of the window.

Which Christmas week is most forgiving?

The 18th to the 22nd, straight after schools break up.

The two traps

What is the December 17th trap?

A trip that crosses that date prices at the Christmas rate for the whole booking, even if most of it is in the cheap fortnight.

Can you give an example?

A ten night trip departing on the 12th returns on the 22nd and prices at £799. Departing on the 8th it returns on the 18th and gets £499.

How do I avoid it?

Tell us your intended length as well as your departure date and we will build it to land on the right side.

What is the January trap?

The floor price does not return on the 1st. It returns around the 10th, once schools are back and the Christmas wave has cleared.

What does that cost?

A departure on the 3rd is around £799. The same trip on the 12th is £499. Nine days and £300.

Why do people get caught?

They search for January, see the floor price advertised, and book the first week without realising it is priced as the tail of Christmas.

Which month has no traps?

November. The whole month is £499 and there is nothing to watch for.

Late availability

Is winter good for a late booking?

The best season in the year for it, outside the Christmas fortnight.

Which month specifically?

November. Genuine availability at close-in properties three or four weeks out, at the floor price.

Why does that availability exist?

Group bookings still shrink and allocations still release, and there is nobody waiting to absorb them.

What is the constraint?

The vaccine. The ACWY certificate must be dated at least ten days before you arrive.

So how fast can I travel?

Seven to ten days with a valid certificate. Three to four weeks without one.

What should I do about that?

Get the vaccine now if you intend to travel this season. It turns you from a four week traveller into a ten day one.

What about payment on a late booking?

Inside eight weeks the balance is already due, so it needs paying in full rather than on a deposit.

The whole set

How does winter compare to Ramadan on booking?

Ramadan needs nine to twelve months. Winter needs three. That is the widest gap in the calendar.

And to summer?

Summer needs January, so six to seven months, because at 43 degrees the hotel decides whether the trip functions.

Which windows are genuinely urgent?

Ramadan and summer, for opposite reasons. Roads closing in one, heat in the other.

Which are moderate?

Christmas and Easter, both driven by school holidays rather than conditions.

Does every window have an alternative?

Ramadan has the first ten nights. Christmas has the first fortnight of its own month. Summer has October half term. Easter has the term time weeks before it.

And winter?

Winter is the only one where the window itself is the alternative.

Prices

What does winter cost?

From £499 for seven nights at three star, across November, early December, mid to late January and into early February.

And Christmas?

From £799 at three star, £949 at four and £1,049 at five.

What are the per night figures?

£71 at seven nights, £55 at ten, £45 at fourteen and £39 at twenty-one days.

Should I upgrade the hotel in winter?

Generally not. At 20 to 32 degrees the walk from a three star is comfortable, so the distance premium has lifted.

What should I spend it on instead?

Nights. Ten nights at three star at £545 costs less than seven at four star at £629.

What is the best winter booking?

Fourteen nights at three star in November, early December or mid to late January. £625 at £45 a night.

What is the deposit?

£99 per person, and it fixes your price in writing.

Can I pay monthly?

Interest free, when you book four or more months ahead.

Practical

What should I pack for winter?

A proper jumper, a light jacket, socks and a large shawl. Madinah nights are the coldest of the year.

Do people get that wrong?

Consistently. It is the single thing winter travellers most often underestimate.

When do you submit the visa?

Six to seven weeks before departure, because the single-entry visa gives only 30 days from issue to enter.

When should I book Nusuk permits?

The day your visa is approved. Winter competition is the lowest of the year.

What should I tell you at the enquiry?

Your dates and your intended length, so we can check both the December line and the January one.
