Most people who ask us this already have what they are asking for, and it is worth saying that before anything else.
The confusion
Every headline price in this market is quoted on quad sharing, which means four people to a room. That phrase makes people picture being allocated a bed alongside strangers.
For the overwhelming majority of bookings, that is not what it means. If you are a family of four, quad sharing means your own four people in your own room. Nobody else is coming in. You already have a private room and you are already paying the lowest price on the list.
The thing people are actually worried about
Allocated sharing, where a solo traveller or a couple is placed into a room with other pilgrims to make up the numbers. That is a real product, it is sold by some operators, and it is a completely different thing.
We do not do it unless you specifically ask us to. If you book with us as two people, you get a room for two people.
The short version
Quad sharing with your own family is a private room. You are not sharing with strangers.
A twin or double for two people adds roughly £180 to £340 per person over the quad rate.
A single room for one person is the genuinely expensive one, because the room cost is not divided at all.

Sharing with your own party
Four people you already know, in one room, usually two double beds. This is how the overwhelming majority of Umrah packages are sold and it is the basis of every headline price you will see anywhere.
A family of four. Four friends. Two couples travelling together. In every one of those cases, quad sharing is a private room and the word sharing is doing something misleading.
Allocated sharing with strangers
A different product entirely. A solo traveller or a couple is placed into a room with other pilgrims the operator is also placing, to fill the room and hold the price down.
It exists, it is legitimate when it is described clearly, and it is what people are picturing when they ask about privacy.
How to tell which you are being sold
One question. Is the quoted price based on my own party occupying the room, or on sharing with other travellers?
A quote that cannot answer that clearly is one to check further before you pay anything.
What we do
Every quote we send states the room configuration and who is in it. We do not place people with strangers unless they have specifically asked us to, and if you are a party of two we quote a room for two.
The practical consequence
If you are a family of four and somebody has told you that avoiding sharing costs extra, ask them what they mean. You may be being sold a supplement for something you already have.

What the pattern shows
The supplement is not really a charge for privacy. It is the room cost being divided between fewer people.
A room that costs the same whoever is in it, split four ways, gives you the quad rate. Split two ways it doubles. Not split at all, it lands entirely on you.
Which is why the single supplement looks steep
Because it is not a penalty. It is arithmetic, and every operator in the market faces the same arithmetic.
And why the triple is the underused option
Three people in a room designed for four costs around eighty to a hundred pounds each more than the quad rate. For a family of three that is the correct booking and hardly anybody asks for it, because triple is rarely advertised.
The solo traveller, which nobody prices properly
The most underserved case in Umrah travel and the one this page exists for.
The situation
You are travelling alone. Every price you see assumes three other people are paying toward your room and you do not have three other people.
Your three options
One: pay the single supplement
From around £949 at three star for seven nights, against £499 quad. You get a room to yourself and complete certainty about who is in it.
Two: ask to be placed in a shared room
Cheaper, and you are with people you have not met. Some travellers find this genuinely good and describe the company as part of the trip. Others find it difficult, particularly on a fortnight.
If you choose this, ask specifically: same gender, how many to a room, and whether you will be told in advance who else is in it.
Three: travel with a group booking
The option people forget. Mosque groups, community trips and family parties frequently have a spare place in a room, and joining one puts you back on the quad rate.

What we would suggest
Try option three first, because it costs you nothing to ask and it is the only one that avoids both the supplement and the uncertainty.
And an honest note about the maths
A solo traveller on a shorter trip in a cheaper month frequently ends up paying less in total than a couple on a longer trip. Do not assume travelling alone is unaffordable before you have a quote in front of you.
Women travelling alone
Under current Saudi rules, women aged eighteen and over may perform Umrah as part of an organised group without a Mahram. Confirm the position for your specific travel date.
Practically, the group route is usually also the answer to the room question, since it puts you into a party with existing room allocations. Tell us at the enquiry and we will handle both together.
When a private room is a necessity rather than a preference
A section we have written because people currently have to raise these things awkwardly on a phone call, and they should not have to.
Sleep apnoea and CPAP machines
A CPAP is not quiet, it needs a power socket by the bed, and it needs somewhere to sit. Sharing a room with three others while using one is difficult for everybody.
Tell us at the enquiry. It changes the room configuration we recommend and it is not something to raise for the first time at check-in.
Timed or refrigerated medication
If you are taking medication at fixed hours through the night, or you need a fridge in the room, a private room removes a genuine practical problem.
Not every three star property has a fridge as standard, so this is worth confirming for your specific hotel rather than assuming.
Continence and bathroom frequency
Nobody wants to explain this to a booking agent and it is a completely normal reason to want your own bathroom, particularly for older travellers on a fortnight.
You do not need to give us details. Saying a private room is needed for medical reasons is enough and we will not ask why.
Post-surgical or mobility needs
Space to move, room for a walking frame, and somewhere to sit that is not a bed. Quad rooms are compact and four people with four suitcases leave very little floor.
Severe snoring
Said plainly because it is a real reason. If you know you snore badly enough to keep three other people awake for a fortnight, a private room is a kindness to everybody and there is nothing embarrassing about booking one.
A young child who wakes at night
A family of four with a toddler is already in a private room, so this rarely needs a supplement. What it may need is a specific bed configuration, which is a different request and usually free.
How to tell us
One line at the enquiry: a private room is needed for medical reasons. We note it on the booking, we build the configuration around it, and nobody asks you to explain further.
Families of five or six: the awkward number
The problem
Six people do not fit in a quad. Five usually do not either. So you need two rooms, and the per person arithmetic changes more than any tier upgrade would.
How it actually works out
Two rooms for five people means one quad and one single, or a triple and a twin, depending on the property and who is comfortable with whom.
A triple plus a twin is usually the better configuration, because a single occupancy room carries the largest supplement in the range.
The number that surprises people
Five people frequently costs more in total than six, because six splits neatly into two triples while five leaves somebody in a room alone.
If you are a party of five and a sixth person is considering joining, that is worth mentioning to them.
Connecting rooms
Available at many properties and worth asking for specifically. Two rooms with a door between them is a materially different arrangement to two rooms on different floors, particularly with children.
It is not always possible and it costs nothing to request. Ask at the enquiry rather than on arrival.

Nobody has a good Umrah on four hours of broken sleep a night for two weeks.

- If shared, same gender, how many, and will I know in advance?
- Is the triple a proper triple, or a twin with a rollaway bed? Genuinely different products.

- Is there a fridge in the room? Matters for medication and it is not standard at every three star.
- What would the next configuration up cost? So you can see the actual trade rather than guess.
The one that matters most
Number two. It is the difference between the thing people fear and the thing they almost always actually have.
On the triple specifically
A rollaway bed squeezed into a twin is not the same as a room built for three, and both get called triple. For a party of three on a fortnight, that distinction is worth asking about.

In peak windows
Supplements widen rather than staying constant, because rooms are scarcer and the operator has less room to absorb an unfilled bed. In the last ten nights of Ramadan a twin supplement can be considerably above the off-peak figure.
