The visa is not the finish line

A visa gets you into Saudi Arabia. It does not get you into the Haram to perform Umrah.

Saudi Arabia now manages crowding at the holy sites with timed digital permits, booked through the Nusuk app after your visa is approved. There is a permit to perform Umrah at Masjid al-Haram, and a separate one for the Rawdah at Masjid an-Nabawi. Gate staff check them.

People are still arriving in Makkah with a perfectly valid visa, no permit, and a very stressful first evening. If a package says visa included and stops there, ask what happens about the permits.

What “visa included” actually means, in three versions

The same phrase is used for three quite different things. Work out which one you are being sold.

Version one: genuinely included

The agency submits the application on your behalf through Nusuk, chases it, tells you when it is approved, and the cost sits inside the package price. You send documents and then you wait.

This is what we do, and it is what the phrase should mean.

Version two: visa assistance

They tell you how to apply and you do it yourself. That can be perfectly honest if it is described that way. It is not the same product, and it should not be priced as though it were.

Version three: visa at extra cost

The headline price excludes it and the fee appears later, sometimes after you have paid a deposit. This is the commonest way a cheap-looking package stops being cheap.

The question that separates them

Ask this exactly: is the visa cost inside the price you have quoted me, and will you submit the application on my behalf?

Two parts, one question. An agency doing version one answers yes to both without hesitating.

The two-step reality: visa, then permit

This is the most useful section on the page and it is the thing that has changed most in the last couple of years.

Step one: the visa

This is the document that gets you through immigration at Jeddah or Madinah. Issued through Nusuk, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah platform, and tied to a specific passport number.

Step two: the Umrah permit

Sometimes called the tasreeh. Booked through the Nusuk app after your visa is approved, it reserves your slot to perform Umrah at Masjid al-Haram. It is not automatic and it is not part of the visa.

Step three, if you want the Rawdah

A separate Nusuk permit for the Rawdah al-Sharifah at Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah, the area between the Prophet’s minbar and his resting place, peace be upon him.

These are free. They are released on a rolling basis and they are frequently taken within minutes. Women have fewer sessions and they go faster still.

What to do the moment your visa lands

Set up your Nusuk profile with your visa number the same day. Book the Umrah permit. Book the Rawdah permit. Do not leave either until you land, and do not assume somebody else has done it for you.

We walk you through this in your travel pack, with screenshots, because it is the single most common thing that goes wrong for people who did everything else right.

Nobody can sell you a permit

They are free through the official app. If somebody offers to sell you a Rawdah slot or guarantee one, they are selling something they do not have.

British passport holders have a choice, and we will tell you about it

Most agencies will not mention this, because it points at a route that does not involve them. We would rather you knew.

Route one: the dedicated Umrah visa

Submitted through Nusuk by a licensed operator, which is us. Documents to us, we handle the rest, cost is inside the package.

Route two: doing it yourself

According to UK Government guidance, British nationals can apply for a Saudi e-visa or an electronic visa waiver and perform Umrah on it, outside the Hajj period, rather than needing the dedicated Umrah visa route that many other nationalities must use.

So why book a package with the visa included?

Three honest reasons, and none of them is that you have to.

First, the price. Our package rate includes the visa, and buying the flights and hotels separately at retail almost never comes out cheaper than a contracted package rate once you add the visa fee on top.

Second, the accommodation chain. Umrah visa applications now depend on verified bookings through the Nusuk system, and hotels have to be compliant. When a licensed operator arranges the booking and submits the visa as one chain, that verification is already handled. Booking a random hotel and then applying is where independent travellers hit friction.

Third, somebody chasing it. If an application stalls, or a document is rejected, or a name does not match, you want a person whose job it is to notice on day three rather than day eleven.

And whichever route you take

You still need the Nusuk permits. The visa or the waiver gets you into the country. The permit gets you to the Kaaba. That part is the same for everybody.

What changed in 2026

If you performed Umrah a few years ago, some of what you remember is out of date.

The entry window shortened

The single-entry Umrah visa now gives you 30 days from issue to enter Saudi Arabia, reduced from 90. Once you are in, you can stay up to 90 days.

This matters more than it sounds. Applying very early no longer buys you flexibility, because the clock to enter starts at issue rather than at travel. We time the submission to your departure rather than rushing it in months ahead.

A multiple-entry option exists

There is a multiple-entry Umrah visa valid for 365 days from issue, allowing several trips inside that year, with a cumulative cap of 90 days across all visits rather than 90 per trip. Each entry needs its own service package through an accredited Nusuk provider.

Useful if you genuinely expect to go twice in a year. For a single trip it is not necessary, and we will say so rather than upselling it.

Accommodation has to be verified

Visa applications now lean on bookings verified through the Nusuk system. That is why the hotel we name in your quote matters administratively as well as practically.

The Hajj pause is formalised

The Umrah visa pauses during the Hajj season, roughly from the 1st of Dhul Qa’dah through the 13th of Dhul Hijjah, and it cannot be used in that window. It is not a substitute for a Hajj visa under any circumstances.

In practical terms there are weeks each year when you simply cannot perform Umrah. The 2026 pre-Hajj suspension closed issuance in late March. The equivalent 2027 window will sit around May. Confirm dates with us before planning anything in late spring.

Health insurance is built into the fee

The application fee includes mandatory Saudi health insurance. That is not the same as travel insurance and it does not cover cancellation, so buy your own separately.

The vaccine is a visa requirement

People treat this as a health recommendation. It is not. It is a condition of the visa.

What is required

Proof of meningococcal ACWY vaccination. No certificate, no visa. The UK Health Security Agency has urged Hajj and Umrah travellers to be vaccinated against meningococcal disease because of the MenW risk linked with travel to Saudi Arabia.

The ten day rule

The certificate must be dated at least ten days before you arrive. A vaccine given three days before your flight will not be accepted, even though you have had it.

This is the single biggest cause of collapsed plans. Somebody books, then discovers the timing does not work, and the whole trip moves by a fortnight.

Where to get it

Your GP practice first, and ask about the cost because many charge privately for the Hajj and Umrah ACWY vaccine. If they cannot see you soon enough, private travel clinics and pharmacy travel services usually can, often within a day or two.

Check whether you already have one

The certificate is generally valid for several years. If you or a family member performed Umrah or Hajj recently, dig it out before you book anything. It can change your earliest possible departure by a week.

What gets a visa delayed or refused

Refusals are rare. Delays are common, and nearly all of them are avoidable. In order of how often we see them.

A poor passport photograph

Number one by a distance. A blurred or angled passport scan is a frequent cause of delays. Photograph the passport flat, in good daylight, with the whole page in frame and no glare across the laminate.

Name mismatch

The name on the booking has to match the passport exactly. Middle names, spelling, the order in which names appear. On a normal booking we fix it. Four days out, it can end the trip.

Passport validity

Six months from your arrival date, not from today. Check every passport in the party, including the children, because a child passport expiring quietly is a classic.

The facial photo not meeting spec

A digital passport-style facial image is required. A cropped selfie is not one. Plain background, face straight on, no filter.

Applying at the wrong moment

Too late is obvious. Too early is now also a problem, because of the 30 day entry window on single-entry visas.

Nationality-specific holds

Saudi Arabia applies temporary seasonal controls, and around Hajj preparation these have affected visit and Umrah visas for certain nationalities. If you hold a non-UK passport, tell us at the first message so we check the current position for you specifically.

If a visa is refused

We tell you the same day, identify the reason, fix it and resubmit where possible. Most refusals are document problems rather than decisions about you.

If your passport is not British

A large share of our customers hold UK residency on another passport, so this comes up constantly.

The short answer

It is not a problem. It is a different process with different timings, and the important thing is that you tell us at the enquiry rather than after you have paid.

What varies

Whether your nationality can use the electronic routes or needs the dedicated Umrah visa through an authorised agency. How long processing takes, which can run to a couple of weeks for some nationalities. Whether additional documents are required. Whether any seasonal restriction currently applies.

Holding a UK, US or Schengen visa can help

Travellers holding a valid and previously used UK, US or Schengen visa are often eligible for electronic entry routes even where their passport nationality is not on the primary list. Whether that applies to you depends on your specific situation and on the rules as they stand, so let us check rather than assume.

Mixed-nationality families

Very common, and it needs a little planning because members of the same family can be on different routes with different timelines. We work to the slowest one and build the itinerary around it.

Choosing who handles your visa

This section exists because it got more important in 2026.

Saudi has been removing agencies

A large number of foreign travel agencies were suspended for Umrah service violations, reported in February 2026. The practical takeaway is not to panic, it is to book with somebody compliant and keep everything in writing.

What to keep

Written confirmation of your hotel with the name and the distance in metres. Flight numbers and airline. The total price with the visa stated as included. Your visa approval when it arrives. Screenshots of your Nusuk permits.

If anything goes wrong at check-in or during verification, the difference between a five minute conversation and a ruined afternoon is whether you can show somebody a document.

Questions worth asking any operator

1. Is the visa cost inside your quoted price, and will you submit it on my behalf?
2. Which hotel, and how far from the Haram in metres?
3. Will you send me written confirmation before I pay the balance?
4. Do you explain the Nusuk permits, or do I find out about them at the airport?
5. Is the flight one ticket with bags checked through, or two separate bookings?

Prices, with the visa in them

Per person, quad sharing, off-peak departures. Includes the Saudi Umrah visa and its processing, return flights from your nearest UK airport, hotels in Makkah and Madinah, and all ground transport inside Saudi Arabia. Ramadan, Christmas and school holidays price higher.

What the visa would cost you separately

Government-side fees are set by the Saudi Ministry and revised periodically, so treat any figure as indicative and confirm on Nusuk. As a rough guide, the dedicated Umrah visa fee plus the mandatory medical insurance has been reported in the region of SAR 400 to 480, while the tourist eVisa route has been reported around SAR 535 with insurance included.

We tell you this rather than hiding it, because you should be able to see roughly what portion of your package is the visa.

Routes for British passport holders

Do I need a dedicated Umrah visa?

Not necessarily. UK Government guidance says British nationals can apply for a Saudi e-visa or an electronic visa waiver and perform Umrah outside the Hajj season.

So can I just do it myself?

You can. We would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.

Then why book a package?

Can I do Umrah on a Saudi tourist visa?

How long does an Umrah visa take?

Four to seven working days through Nusuk, and often quicker.

Do weekends count?

No. A Friday afternoon submission does not start moving until Monday.

How far ahead should I apply?

Not as early as you might think. The single-entry visa now gives you 30 days from issue to enter the country, so we time submission to your departure.

What changed about the entry window?

It came down from 90 days to 30 days for single-entry visas under the 2026 rules. Applying very early no longer buys flexibility.

How long can I stay once I arrive?

What is the multiple-entry visa?

What do you need from me?

Do I need proof of accommodation?

Applications now depend on verified bookings through Nusuk. When you book a package with us, that side is handled as part of the same chain.

Do I need a return flight booked?

Confirmed onward or return travel is commonly expected. On a package it is already in place.

The vaccine

Is the vaccine a visa requirement or health advice?

Are Umrah visas often refused?

No, refusals are rare. Delays are common and nearly all are document problems.

What happens if mine is refused?

Will I lose my money if it is refused?

Can a previous overstay affect a new application?

Overstaying can affect future visa applications and trigger fines. If you have had any issue on a previous trip, tell us at the start.

Are there restrictions by nationality?

Saudi Arabia applies temporary seasonal controls, and around Hajj preparation these have affected some nationalities. Tell us your passport nationality at enquiry and we check the current position.

What if my passport expires in five months?

Renew first. Six months validity is measured from your arrival date, not from today.

Can I travel on a different passport to the one on the visa?

No. The visa is tied to a specific passport number and you must travel on that document.

Non-British passports

Can I go if I hold a Pakistani, Indian or Bangladeshi passport?

Yes, with UK residency, though the route and the timings differ and seasonal restrictions sometimes apply. Tell us at enquiry.

Does it take longer?

It can. Some nationalities go through authorised agencies with processing running to a couple of weeks.

Does holding a UK visa help?

My family holds different passports. Is that a problem?

Common, and manageable. We work to the slowest timeline in the party and build the itinerary around it.

Do I need to be in the UK to apply?

Can non-Muslims come on the trip?

Only Muslims may enter the city boundaries of Makkah. That is a Saudi rule and it is enforced.

The Hajj season pause

Can I do Umrah at any time of year?

Almost. The Umrah visa pauses during the Hajj season, roughly from the 1st of Dhul Qa’dah through the 13th of Dhul Hijjah.

When is that in 2027?

Hajj 2027 falls in May, so the pause sits around then. Exact dates are set by the Saudi authorities and move year to year, so confirm with us.

Can an Umrah visa be used for Hajj?

Practical

What do I do the day my visa is approved?

Set up your Nusuk profile with the visa number, then book your Umrah permit and your Rawdah permit. Same day.

Do I need the Nusuk app on my phone?

Yes. Download and register it before you fly rather than trying to sort it out on arrival.

Will I need my visa printed?

Carry a printed copy as well as the digital one. Phones run out of battery at exactly the wrong moment.

Where do I change into Ihram?

At the airport after security, or on the aircraft before the Miqat. Not at home.

When is the Miqat crossed?

Flying into Jeddah, roughly half an hour before landing. The crew announce it. You must be in Ihram with your intention made before that point.

Can women travel without a Mahram?

Under current Saudi rules, women aged 18 and over may perform Umrah as part of an organised group without a Mahram. Confirm the position for your specific travel date.

Can I perform Umrah more than once on one visa?

Yes while you are there. Return to the nearest Miqat, most people use Masjid Aisha at Taneem, re-enter Ihram and come back.

Can I travel elsewhere in Saudi Arabia on an Umrah visa?

Yes, current Umrah visas allow travel around the Kingdom rather than restricting you to the holy cities.
