At what age can a woman do Umrah without a Mahram from the UK?

Under current Saudi regulations, women aged 18 and over can apply for and receive an Umrah visa without a Mahram sponsor. The old regulation requiring women to be aged 45 or over has been superseded. There is currently no upper age restriction either.

For groups of 10 or more women, group-rate discounts apply — from approximately 8–15% below standard individual rates. Our women-only group 3-star 7-night packages start from £625/pp for groups of 10+.

Women’s Umrah Rituals and Practical

What should women wear for Umrah?

For Ihram, women wear their normal modest clothing — covering the body with the exception of face and hands. No specific white garment is required. The face must remain uncovered during Ihram. No perfumed clothing. Outside Ihram, the Saudi expectation is full-length modest clothing in public. An abaya is standard for public spaces in Makkah and Madinah.

Can women perform Tawaf at any time?

Yes — there are no gender-restricted Tawaf times. Women perform Tawaf in the same Mataf area as men. In quieter months (October, November, January), women can access the inner Mataf circuits at most hours. In busy months, crowd management strategies (Fajr or post-Isha Tawaf) apply to all pilgrims.

What happens if I begin my period during Umrah?

Menstruation prevents Tawaf and entry to the Masjid al-Haram for prayer. Sa’i (in the covered Mas’a), dua outside the Masjid, and all Madinah activities are still available. If Tawaf has not yet been performed, wait until purity is re-established. A 10 or 12-night package provides more flexibility for managing this situation.

Can women perform multiple Umrahs during one trip?

Yes. After completing your first Umrah and exiting Ihram, you may return to Masjid Aisha (Tan’im, ~5km from the Haram) to re-enter Ihram and perform additional Umrahs. Many women perform 2–3 Umrahs across a 10–14 night stay.

When can women visit the Rawdah?

The Rawdah has designated visiting hours for women, managed through the Nusuk booking system. We pre-book your visiting slot at the women’s designated times before you depart the UK. The exact visiting hours change seasonally — your booking confirmation includes your specific allocated time.

Can I wear a niqab during Umrah?

You cannot wear a face covering (niqab) during the state of Ihram — the face must remain uncovered. Outside the Ihram state (before entering Ihram and after completing Umrah), wearing a niqab is a personal choice.

Safety and Accommodation

Is Makkah safe for women travelling without a Mahram?

Yes — Makkah and Madinah are consistently described by UK Muslim women returnees as among the safest environments they have ever been in. The overwhelmingly devout pilgrim population, the consistent presence of Saudi security, and the structured Haram environment make the holy cities genuinely safe for women travelling independently or in groups.

Are hotel rooms separated by gender in women-only group packages?

Yes. For women-only groups, we arrange female-only room blocks — the floor or wing of the hotel containing the group’s rooms is female-only. Male and female guests of the hotel are accommodated in separate sections.

Can I share a room with another woman I do not know?

We only arrange same-gender room shares. For solo female travellers who want a twin-room option rather than a single-occupancy supplement, we match with another female pilgrim from the same UK booking pool. We confirm the room-sharing arrangement before deposit and provide the option to pay the single-occupancy supplement instead if preferred.

Which UK airports have women’s Umrah departures?

Manchester, London Heathrow, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, London Luton, and Gatwick. Women-only groups typically depart from the airport most convenient for the majority of the group’s members.

What documents do I need for a women’s Umrah package?

A valid UK passport (6+ months from return date), a recent passport photograph, and a MenACWY meningitis vaccination certificate. No male guardian’s documentation required. All submitted digitally by WhatsApp.

Do I need my husband’s permission documented to travel?

No. Saudi Arabia does not require documented spousal permission for women to travel for Umrah. A woman’s own passport, visa, and travel documents are sufficient for entry.

Can non-UK nationals living in the UK get a women’s Umrah package?

UK residents who hold non-British passports may be eligible for Umrah visas provided they hold valid UK residency. Requirements vary by nationality. We advise on individual visa pathways for non-British passport holders at the enquiry stage.
