Step one: Ihram
Men wear two unstitched white sheets. Women wear ordinary modest clothing. You enter ihram at the designated miqat, which for pilgrims flying into Jeddah is usually announced in the air, and you make the intention for Umrah and begin the talbiyah.
Step two: Tawaf
Seven circuits of the Kaaba, beginning and ending at the Black Stone corner. The ground floor is busiest. If you are travelling with elderly relatives, the upper levels and the roof are calmer, though each circuit is longer.
Step three: Sa’i
Seven trips between the hills of Safa and Marwa, now enclosed within the mosque. It is roughly 3.5 kilometres in total. Wheelchairs and electric carts are available.
Step four: Halq or Taqsir
Men shave the head completely or trim it. Women cut a fingertip length from their hair. At this point the state of ihram ends and your Umrah is complete.
