Manchester Airport (About 40 Miles West)

M1 north to junction 36, then M62 westbound through the Pennines to the M60 and M56. About 55 to 65 minutes outside rush hour. Manchester has the widest flight selection, including direct Saudi Airlines to Jeddah (about 6 hours 20 minutes). It’s the default for most Sheffield pilgrims. Taxi: roughly £50 to £65.

East Midlands Airport (About 40 Miles South)

M1 south to junction 23A. Straightforward run, about 45 to 55 minutes. East Midlands handles connecting flights to Jeddah and Madinah via European hubs. Fares can undercut Manchester, especially midweek. The airport is smaller and quicker to get through. Taxi: roughly £45 to £60.

Leeds Bradford Airport (About 35 Miles North)

M1 north to junction 43, then A61/A658 or M621. About 45 to 55 minutes. Leeds Bradford has connecting flights and sometimes offers the cheapest fares of the three. Taxi: roughly £40 to £55.

What Happened to Doncaster Sheffield Airport?

It closed in October 2022. There’s been talk of reopening, but as of now, it’s not operating. Sheffield pilgrims use Manchester, East Midlands or Leeds Bradford.

Sheffield to Manchester Piccadilly: about 50 minutes on TransPennine Express, then connect to Manchester Airport (about 20 minutes). Total: roughly 1 hour 10 minutes.
