More Than Just Umrah Packages
QUICK ANSWER: Packages Umrah arranges all-inclusive Umrah packages for Crawley pilgrims from £645/pp for 7 nights (3-star, off-peak months). London Gatwick Airport (LGW) is approximately 2–4 miles north of Crawley town centre — approximately 5–12 minutes by car depending on terminal and traffic. LGW is literally within the Crawley area’s boundaries. Saudi Airlines operates direct Jeddah services from Gatwick (~6h 30m). London Heathrow (LHR, ~35 miles northwest via M23/M25/M4) is checked when LHR direct Jeddah offers better value. £99 deposit. ATOL protected. WhatsApp +44 7737 144335.
CRAWLEY IS ENGLAND’S GATWICK TOWN — 2 MILES FROM UMRAH FLIGHTS: Gatwick Airport was built in Crawley. The airport’s postal address is Gatwick, West Sussex — but it is functionally part of the Crawley urban area. Parts of Crawley are within 1–2 miles of the runway. The Crawley Muslim community — approximately 15,000–20,000 people — lives in England’s most airport-adjacent town. For Umrah, this is the most extraordinary position of any Muslim community in our portfolio outside of Southall’s 2-mile Heathrow proximity. No Umrah operator has dedicated a Crawley page. This is the first.
Crawley is a new town in West Sussex — designated under the 1947 New Towns Act, Crawley was one of England’s first purpose-built new towns, planned to receive overspill population from London in the post-war period of rapid urban expansion. From a small market town of approximately 10,000 people before the war, Crawley grew to a town of approximately 115,000 people through the construction of new residential neighbourhoods — Langley Green, Broadfield, Gossops Green, Furnace Green, Bewbush, Pound Hill, Worth, and Three Bridges — built on the agricultural land around the original village core.
Crawley’s most defining modern characteristic — the feature that makes it unlike any other English new town — is its relationship with Gatwick Airport. Gatwick Airport was built on land that was part of the Crawley area, beginning operations as a civilian airport in 1936 and expanding to become London’s second-busiest airport. The airport’s South Terminal is approximately 2–3 miles from Crawley town centre. The North Terminal is approximately 3–4 miles. The airport’s operational infrastructure — cargo facilities, ground handling, airline maintenance, catering facilities — extends into the Crawley urban area’s northern boundaries. Crawley is the town that services Gatwick. Tens of thousands of Crawley residents work at or for the airport.
The Crawley Islamic Centre and Masjid (CICM) at 157 London Road, Langley Green, Crawley RH10 9TA was established in 1978. It serves approximately 1,000 worshippers for Jummah prayers — a remarkable congregation size for a town of Crawley’s Muslim community proportion. The Crawley Mosque (Quwat-ul-Islam Masjid) at Broadwood Rise, Broadfield, Crawley RH11 9SE serves the Broadfield Muslim community. The Gossops Green Community Centre at 4 Kidborough Road (RH11 8HW) provides prayer space for the Gossops Green Muslim community.
The Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and Somali Muslim families of Crawley live approximately 2–4 miles from the airport that can carry them to Jeddah. No English Muslim community of Crawley’s size has a more direct, more convenient, more geographically immediate relationship with a major Umrah airport. No Umrah operator has noted this. This page does.
Packages Umrah is operated by Uraan Travel Ltd (7 Huxley Avenue, Manchester M8 0SJ). We arrange all-inclusive Umrah packages for Crawley and West Sussex. WhatsApp +44 7737 144335 or visit packagesumrah.co.uk.
The journey from Crawley to Gatwick Airport is not so much a journey as a short drive through the streets of the same urban area. The airport is part of Crawley’s geography in the way that no other major English airport is part of any other English town’s geography. From Langley Green (where the Crawley Islamic Centre and Masjid is located), the South Terminal is approximately 3 miles north. From Broadfield (where the Crawley Mosque serves), it is approximately 4 miles. At pre-dawn, on clear roads, these distances take approximately 5–10 minutes.
Detail | London Gatwick (LGW) for Crawley Pilgrims |
Distance from Crawley town centre | ~2–3 miles north (South Terminal); ~3–4 miles north (North Terminal) |
Distance from Langley Green (RH10, CICM area) | ~3 miles north via London Road and A23 |
Distance from Broadfield (RH11, Crawley Mosque area) | ~3.5–4 miles north via A23 or B2036 |
Distance from Gossops Green (RH11) | ~4–5 miles north via A23 |
Primary route | A23 north from Crawley → follow Gatwick signs → South Terminal or North Terminal. The A23 is Crawley’s primary road to Gatwick — it runs directly between the town and the airport. |
Drive time (off-peak, normal traffic) | 8–18 minutes. A23 can slow during daytime airport traffic peak. |
Drive time at 2–3am (pre-dawn) | 5–10 minutes — A23 completely clear at pre-dawn. This is one of the shortest community-to-airport journeys in England. |
Saudi Airlines from LGW to Jeddah | Saudi Airlines (Saudia) operates direct flights from LGW to Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport: approximately 6 hours 30 minutes. No connecting hub. |
Other Umrah routes from LGW | Turkish Airlines (Istanbul → Jeddah), Emirates connections, charter packages. LGW has good Umrah provision. |
Taxi from Crawley to LGW | Approximately £10–18 for a standard private hire car from central Crawley — among the most affordable international airport taxi journeys in England given the 2–4 mile distance. |
Train from Crawley to LGW | Crawley station → Gatwick Airport station: approximately 5–8 minutes by train. The Southern/Thameslink service connects Crawley directly to Gatwick Airport station (which connects directly to both terminals). This is exceptional — Crawley has a direct 5–8 minute train connection to Gatwick Airport. |
The Crawley-to-Gatwick train: Crawley station to Gatwick Airport station — approximately 5–8 minutes on Southern/Thameslink. The train connection is extraordinary: a direct service connecting Crawley town centre to LGW in less than 10 minutes. For Crawley women’s groups, elderly pilgrims, and anyone preferring public transport to pre-dawn driving, the Crawley-Gatwick train is among the most convenient community-to-airport rail connections in England.
Muslim Community | Nearest Umrah Airport | Distance | Pre-Dawn Drive |
Crawley (RH10–RH11) | LGW | ~2–4 miles | ~5–10 min — the shortest in south England |
Southall (UB1–UB2) | LHR | ~2–3 miles | ~5–10 min — comparable |
Hounslow (TW3–TW5) | LHR | ~3–5 miles | ~6–12 min |
Croydon (CR0–CR7) | LGW | ~12–15 miles | ~15–22 min |
Woking (GU21–22) | LHR | ~14–16 miles | ~18–25 min |
Guildford (GU1–GU4) | LHR | ~18–20 miles | ~20–28 min |
Basingstoke (RG21–22) | LHR | ~35–40 miles | ~32–42 min |
Crawley’s position rivals Southall’s as England’s most airport-adjacent Muslim community. The key difference: Crawley is adjacent to Gatwick (the world’s busiest single-runway airport), while Southall is adjacent to Heathrow (the world’s busiest airport by many measures). Both are approximately 2–4 miles from a major international airport with Umrah provision. In terms of convenience, the two communities are comparable — and both are exceptional.

Taxi from Crawley to LHR | Approximately £55–72 |
Our Crawley recommendation: Gatwick (LGW, 2–4 miles north, 5–10 minutes pre-dawn, direct train 5–8 minutes) is Crawley’s primary Umrah airport for almost all bookings. Heathrow (LHR, 35 miles northwest) is checked when LHR Saudi Airlines scheduling offers better departure options for specific dates. For Crawley, Gatwick is so close that it is the obvious and overwhelming first choice.
All prices include return flights from London Gatwick (LGW, ~2–4 miles north, primary — world’s busiest single-runway airport with Saudi Airlines direct Jeddah) or London Heathrow (LHR, ~35 miles northwest, when LHR scheduling better), Umrah visa, named Makkah hotel with Haram distance in metres before deposit, named Madinah hotel, Rawdah slot pre-booked, and all Saudi Arabia transport. Prices are £20 per person below UK market rates.

The Pakistani and Bangladeshi Muslim families who came to Crawley came to a new town that was being built specifically to receive them — not specifically as Muslims, but as Londoners who needed housing in the post-war expansion programme. The new estates of Langley Green, Broadfield, and Gossops Green were built with the same planned regularity that characterised all the new towns designated under the 1947 Act: wide streets, separated pedestrian and vehicle routes, neighbourhood centres, parks and green spaces built into the residential layout. These were streets built for a diverse new community — and the Pakistani Muslim families who settled in Langley Green and Broadfield have made their own community institutions within those planned streets.
The Crawley Islamic Centre and Masjid at 157 London Road, Langley Green was established in 1978 — when Crawley’s Pakistani Muslim community had been established in the town for approximately ten to fifteen years and had grown large enough to need formal mosque provision. Since 1978, CICM has served the Crawley Muslim community through every phase of the community’s development: from first-generation Pakistani workers to their British-born children and grandchildren, from the Jummah prayers of 1978 to the 1,000-worshipper Jummah congregations of today.
The Crawley Islamic Centre and Masjid (CICM) at 157 London Road, Langley Green, Crawley, West Sussex RH10 9TA has served the Crawley Muslim community since 1978. With approximately 1,000 worshippers for Jummah prayers, CICM is one of West Sussex’s largest mosque congregations. Langley Green — where CICM is located — is immediately south of the A23, the road that runs directly north to Gatwick Airport 3 miles away. The mosque’s proximity to the main Crawley-Gatwick road is almost geographic symbolism: the same road that connects the community to the mosque connects the community to the airport.
The Crawley Mosque (Jamiat-ul-Muslemeen, Quwat-ul-Islam Masjid) at Broadwood Rise, Broadfield, Crawley RH11 9SE serves the Broadfield Muslim community — one of Crawley’s major new town residential areas in the west of the borough. Registered Charity number 284381. The mosque describes itself as ‘not only a place of worship but a vibrant community’ offering ‘spiritual development and youth empowerment programs.’ From Broadfield, Gatwick Airport is approximately 3.5–4 miles north via A23 — approximately 6–10 minutes pre-dawn.
A significant proportion of Crawley’s Muslim community works at or for Gatwick Airport — as airline check-in staff, baggage handlers, security officers, customs officers, ground crew, catering staff, cleaning staff, taxi and transfer drivers, and in the vast network of businesses that service the 40+ million passengers who pass through Gatwick each year. These Crawley Muslim airport workers have a specific and distinctive relationship with the Umrah journey: they know Gatwick Airport as intimately as their own mosque. They know the South Terminal’s check-in halls, the North Terminal’s departure gates, the security queues, the airside shops. For the Crawley Muslim airport worker performing Umrah, the departure hall is the most familiar room they have ever stood in — except this time they are the pilgrim.

Crawley was built as a new town for people who needed somewhere to live in post-war England — a planned community in West Sussex, given streets and parks and neighbourhood centres and, eventually, a community identity that is entirely its own. The Pakistani Muslim families who came to Langley Green and Broadfield in the 1960s came to a new town that was still building itself, and they built their institutions within it: the CICM in 1978, the Crawley Mosque in Broadfield, the community networks of Langley Green and Gossops Green.
Above the rooftops of Langley Green, aircraft rise from Gatwick’s runway and bank south toward the English Channel — toward Paris, toward Málaga, toward Dubai, toward Jeddah. The Saudi Airlines direct to Jeddah that takes off from Gatwick airport rises above the same streets where Crawley’s Muslim families live, where the CICM stands on London Road, where children learn Quran in the evenings after school. The airport that is 2–4 miles away is the airport that can carry Crawley’s Muslim community to the Haram.
The A23 north from London Road at 4:45am: empty, direct, Gatwick South Terminal signs appearing in less than 5 minutes. Or the train from Crawley station: 5 minutes, no driving, Gatwick Airport station. Saudi Airlines direct. Six hours thirty minutes. Jeddah. Makkah. From £645/pp all-inclusive. £99 deposit. Named hotel before deposit. ATOL Certificate at booking. Same-day quotes for Crawley, Langley Green, Broadfield, Gossops Green, Three Bridges, Horley, Horsham, East Grinstead, and all West Sussex.

Umrah is a voluntary Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah that can be performed at any time of the year. It is open to all Muslims worldwide, regardless of age or gender, provided women under 45 are accompanied by a Mahram.
Hajj is the compulsory annual pilgrimage performed during the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah and is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Umrah is a voluntary pilgrimage that can be performed throughout the year and is often referred to as the “lesser pilgrimage.”
The actual rituals of Umrah — Ihram, Tawaf, Sa’i, and Halq or Taqsir — can be completed in a few hours. However, most pilgrims spend 7 to 14 days in Saudi Arabia to maximise their time in worship at the Haram.
Umrah can be performed throughout the year. However, Ramadan is considered the most spiritually rewarding time, as performing Umrah during this month holds the reward equivalent to Hajj. January to March also offer cooler temperatures and a peaceful atmosphere.
Our Umrah packages typically include return flights from the UK, hotel accommodation in both Makkah and Madinah, airport transfers, Umrah visa processing, and 24/7 customer support. Full details are listed on each individual package page.
