More Than Just Umrah Packages
QUICK ANSWER: Packages Umrah arranges all-inclusive Umrah packages for Cardiff pilgrims from £645/pp for 7 nights (3-star, off-peak months). Cardiff Airport (CWL) has no direct Saudi Arabia routes. Cardiff pilgrims depart from Bristol Airport (BRS, ~45 miles east on M4, ~50 minutes) or Birmingham Airport (BHX, ~105 miles northeast, ~90–100 minutes). We check both for every Cardiff quote and advise honestly. Important: our price from £645/pp is significantly below the Welsh market — Cardiff-serving competitors start at £839/pp. Secure your place with a £99 deposit. ATOL protected. WhatsApp +44 7737 144335 — same-day quote.
Cardiff is the capital of Wales — a city of approximately 400,000 people that has transformed over the past three decades from a post-industrial port city into one of the UK’s most dynamic capital cities. Cardiff Bay’s regeneration, the Senedd building, the Principality Stadium, the National Museum — Cardiff is a city that knows it has arrived. Its Muslim community of approximately 45,000–50,000 people — roughly 10–12% of the city’s population — is the largest Muslim community in Wales and one of the most diverse, encompassing Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Somali, Yemeni, and Arab Muslims across several of the city’s distinctive neighbourhoods.
Cardiff’s Muslim community has a specific character that sets it apart from the Muslim communities of England’s northern cities: it is the Muslim community of Wales’s capital, in a nation that has its own national identity, its own language, its own institutions. Cardiff Muslims are Welsh Muslims — citizens of Wales who may speak Welsh, who support the Welsh national rugby team, whose children attend Welsh schools, and whose Pakistani or Bangladeshi heritage coexists with a genuinely Welsh civic identity. This is not the Birmingham Muslim experience or the Bradford Muslim experience — it is specifically and authentically the Cardiff Welsh Muslim experience.
For Umrah travel, Cardiff faces one practical challenge: Cardiff Airport has no Saudi Arabia routes, and the nearest realistic international Umrah departure airports — Bristol (45 miles) and Birmingham (105 miles) — require a motorway journey. We explain both options honestly and check them both for every Cardiff booking.
Packages Umrah is operated by Uraan Travel Ltd (7 Huxley Avenue, Manchester M8 0SJ). We arrange all-inclusive Umrah packages for Cardiff and all of South Wales. WhatsApp +44 7737 144335 or visit packagesumrah.co.uk.
Wales is underserved by affordable Umrah operators. Cardiff-serving competitors advertise prices starting at £839/pp for comparable packages — packages that other UK cities receive for £645–695/pp. Our Cardiff packages start at £645/pp — up to £194/pp cheaper than the cheapest Welsh market price we have found. For a family of 4, that saving is up to £776. For a mosque group of 15, the saving reaches over £2,900. Cardiff’s Muslim community deserves the same pricing as Manchester, Birmingham, and London.
Cardiff Airport (CWL) does not operate Saudi Arabia Umrah routes — neither direct nor connecting. Every Cardiff Umrah journey must use Bristol Airport (BRS, 45 miles east) or Birmingham Airport (BHX, 105 miles northeast) as the departure point. We explain both options honestly and check both for every Cardiff quote.
Detail | Bristol Airport (BRS) for Cardiff Pilgrims |
Distance from Cardiff city centre | ~45 miles east on M4 |
Primary route | M4 east from Cardiff → Junction 20 → A38 north → Bristol Airport signs → BRS |
Drive time (off-peak) | 45–60 minutes |
Drive time at 2–3am (pre-dawn departure) | 40–45 minutes — M4 completely clear at this hour |
Train from Cardiff | Cardiff Central → Bristol Temple Meads (~50 minutes). Then taxi to BRS (~20 minutes, ~£25). Total ~75 minutes. |
Taxi from Cardiff to BRS | Approximately £50–70 for a standard private hire car |
Saudi Arabia routes | Connecting flights via Istanbul (Turkish Airlines), Dubai (Emirates), Doha (Qatar). Year-round Umrah services. |
BRS advantages for Cardiff | Closest realistic Umrah airport for Cardiff. M4 direct route. No city traffic. |
BRS limitations | Smaller route provision than Birmingham. Sometimes fewer departure time options. |
Detail | Birmingham Airport (BHX) for Cardiff Pilgrims |
Distance from Cardiff city centre | ~105 miles northeast |
Primary route | M4 east from Cardiff → M5 north → M42 east → BHX signs |
Drive time (off-peak) | 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes |
Drive time at 2–3am | 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes — M4/M5/M42 clear |
Train from Cardiff | Cardiff Central → Birmingham New Street (~2 hours). Then train to BHX (~7 minutes). Total ~2 hours 10 minutes. |
Taxi from Cardiff to BHX | Approximately £100–130 — significant for solo pilgrims; better value for families |
Saudi Arabia routes | Significantly wider Umrah route provision than BRS. Multiple airlines, more departure time options. |
When BHX is worth the extra drive | When BHX has a significantly better Umrah route, price, or departure time for specific dates. Also when a direct Jeddah flight is available from BHX but not BRS. |
Cardiff Airport is 12 miles south of the city centre — genuinely convenient for short-haul European routes. However, Cardiff Airport does not operate connecting services to Saudi Arabia via the Gulf hubs used for Umrah (Dubai, Istanbul, Doha). For Cardiff Umrah pilgrims, CWL is not a realistic option for the pilgrimage journey. Bristol Airport is the closest realistic departure point. We state this clearly because some Cardiff pilgrims search ‘Cardiff Airport Umrah’ hoping for a local departure — the honest answer is that BRS is the local option, not CWL.
Factor | Bristol Airport (BRS) | Birmingham Airport (BHX) | For Cardiff |
Distance | ~45 miles | ~105 miles | BRS clearly closer |
Drive time | 45–60 mins | 1h 30m–1h 45m | BRS saves 45–60 minutes each way |
Taxi cost | ~£50–70 | ~£100–130 | BRS more affordable |
Saudi Arabia route provision | Good — seasonal connecting flights | Excellent — wider choice, more airlines | BHX better routes |
Our recommendation | BRS for most Cardiff bookings | BHX when routes/price better | Depends on specific dates |
Best for Cardiff | Standard Cardiff Umrah departure | When BRS lacks suitable route for your dates | We check both — best wins |
Our Cardiff approach: we check both BRS and BHX for every Cardiff quote. If BRS has a suitable Umrah route for your dates at a competitive price, we recommend BRS — the shorter journey is genuinely preferable. When BRS lacks the right route for specific dates or BHX has a materially better option, we advise BHX clearly with the full cost picture including the longer drive.
All prices include return flights (from BRS as standard, or BHX when advised), Umrah visa, named Makkah hotel (Haram distance confirmed in metres before deposit), named Madinah hotel, Rawdah visiting slot pre-booked, and all Saudi Arabia transport. Our prices start at £645/pp — significantly below the Welsh market where competitors start at £839/pp.

Cardiff’s Muslim community occupies a unique position in UK Islam: it is the Muslim community of a national capital that is also a minority nation within the United Kingdom. Cardiff Muslims are not simply British Muslims who happen to live in Cardiff — many are specifically Welsh Muslims, who identify with Wales as their nation, who may speak Welsh, who navigate a dual identity that is both Pakistani or Bangladeshi or Somali in heritage and Welsh in civic belonging.
This Welsh Muslim identity has specific expressions. The Cardiff Pakistani Muslim family that supports Wales in the Six Nations rugby. The Cardiff Muslim schoolchildren who study Welsh as a first language. The Cardiff mosque community that operates within the specific social geography of Wales — a nation with its own devolved government, its own educational system, its own distinct relationship to the UK majority. Being Muslim in Cardiff is different from being Muslim in Birmingham or Bradford — it involves being Muslim in Wales, with all the specific character that implies.
Riverside (CF11) is the neighbourhood most associated with Cardiff’s Muslim community — a densely populated area along the west bank of the River Taff, immediately south of Canton and west of Cardiff city centre. The streets around Cowbridge Road East and the surrounding residential terraces contain the highest concentration of Pakistani and Bangladeshi Muslim families in Cardiff. The mosque serving Riverside’s community is one of Cardiff’s most established Islamic institutions, and the halal food businesses along Cowbridge Road East form Cardiff’s most recognisable Muslim commercial corridor.
From Riverside, Bristol Airport is accessible via the A48/M4 east — approximately 45–50 minutes off-peak.
Butetown (CF10), immediately south of Cardiff city centre and north of Cardiff Bay, has one of Cardiff’s most diverse Muslim communities. Butetown — the historic Tiger Bay area — has been a multicultural neighbourhood for over a century, one of the oldest multiethnic communities in the UK. The Somali and Yemeni Muslim communities in Butetown have been present since the early twentieth century, when Cardiff’s docklands brought sailors and workers from across the world. The Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities came later but are now deeply established. The Butetown mosque serves a genuinely multi-ethnic congregation that reflects the area’s maritime heritage.
The Yemeni Muslim community of Butetown/Cardiff Bay is one of Wales’s oldest established Muslim communities — predating most Pakistani settlement in Cardiff by decades. For Cardiff’s Yemeni Muslim families, the Umrah trip connects them to Arabia from which their heritage comes — a connection that is both religious and cultural.
Grangetown (CF11) is south Cardiff’s large Pakistani Muslim neighbourhood — the residential area between Riverside and the River Ely, serving both Pakistani and Bangladeshi Muslim families in substantial numbers. Grangetown’s mosque and halal food infrastructure serves a community that is closely linked to Riverside’s but has its own neighbourhood character. For Grangetown families, Bristol Airport is accessible via the A4160/A48/M4 — approximately 45–50 minutes.
Canton (CF5) and Pontcanna (CF11) west of Cardiff city centre have a growing Muslim professional community — younger Pakistani and Bangladeshi Muslims who have moved to these more affluent west Cardiff areas as their economic position has improved over two generations. Canton’s and Pontcanna’s Muslim communities are more dispersed than Riverside’s concentration, but maintain strong mosque connections with the Riverside and Grangetown community institutions.

Swansea note: Swansea is Wales’s second city and has a significant Pakistani and Bangladeshi Muslim community in the Clase, Morriston, and Waun-Wen areas. Bristol Airport is approximately 80 miles east on the M4 — approximately 80–90 minutes. For Swansea pilgrims, BRS is the standard Umrah departure point. Our Cardiff packages serve Swansea as part of the wider South Wales Muslim community.
Welsh school holidays: Welsh schools (Cardiff Council and other Welsh local authorities) use Welsh Government term dates — which differ from English school dates. Always confirm exact Cardiff or Welsh school holiday dates before booking. Welsh school holidays are set by the Welsh Government and differ from England in some terms.

Seven nights suits Cardiff working families on standard annual leave. The 45-minute M4 drive to Bristol Airport means the pre-dawn departure is manageable — leave Cardiff at 3:30–4:00am for a 6am BRS flight. Four Makkah nights, 3 Madinah nights. Complete Umrah, Rawdah, essential Madinah Ziyarat. Wales’s most affordable Umrah format — from £645/pp, well below the Welsh market. £99 deposit.
Ten nights — 6 Makkah nights, 4 Madinah nights — is our most recommended Cardiff format. The M4/BRS investment of the airport journey is better amortised over 10 days of pilgrimage than 7. By Makkah night 4, the journey from Cardiff is forgotten and the Haram is the only present reality. From £695/pp off-peak.
Twelve nights suits Cardiff families using the full Welsh Easter or Christmas school holiday, elderly Cardiff pilgrims wanting a more relaxed pace, and Cardiff mosque groups wanting the complete Ziyarat programme. Seven Makkah nights, 5 Madinah nights. From £735/pp off-peak.
Two full weeks from Bristol or Birmingham Airport. Eight Makkah nights, 6 Madinah nights. For Cardiff’s landmark multi-generational family Umrah — the Welsh Pakistani grandparents being brought for their first trip — 14 nights gives both holy cities everything they deserve. From £775/pp off-peak.
Cardiff’s mosque communities serve a closely-knit Welsh Pakistani and Bangladeshi Muslim population spread across Riverside, Grangetown, Butetown, and the wider city. Group Umrah from Cardiff mosques is a well-established tradition. For Cardiff mosque groups of 10+:
For Cardiff families with children in Cardiff or Welsh schools:
Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan University, and the University of South Wales all have Muslim student populations. For Cardiff Muslim students:
For Cardiff’s first-generation Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and Somali Muslims — who came to Cardiff in the 1960s, 1970s, and later — the first Umrah is among the most significant journeys of their lives:
For Cardiff Muslim women performing Umrah without a Mahram — women aged 18+ may travel independently:
Ramadan 2027 begins approximately 8 February 2027. Cardiff’s Muslim community — one of Wales’s most active and established — has a strong Ramadan Umrah tradition. We check both BRS and BHX for Cardiff Ramadan bookings. BRS Ramadan capacity is more limited than BHX — if BRS lacks your preferred dates, BHX is the alternative. Book by September 2026.

Wales is a nation that has spent centuries asserting its distinctness — its language, its culture, its identity within the larger entity of the United Kingdom. The Welsh national anthem speaks of a nation that will not be overcome. The Welsh people, whatever their heritage, carry that resilience and that pride.
Cardiff’s Muslim community carries its own version of that resilience — the Pakistani families who came from Mirpur and Sylhet and built their community in a Welsh capital, the Somali families who found refuge and stability in Tiger Bay’s historic multicultural streets, the Yemeni workers who have been part of Cardiff’s maritime community for over a century. They are Welsh Muslims — their faith is Muslim, their nation is Wales, and their capital is Cardiff.
The Umrah intention in this community is as present as anywhere in the Muslim world. The M4 east toward Bristol Airport is 45 miles. Jeddah is approximately twelve hours after that. The Haram is waiting. From £645/pp all-inclusive — Wales’s best Umrah price. £99 deposit. Named hotel before deposit. ATOL Certificate at booking. Same-day quotes for Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, and all of South Wales.

Umrah is a voluntary Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah that can be performed at any time of the year. It is open to all Muslims worldwide, regardless of age or gender, provided women under 45 are accompanied by a Mahram.
Hajj is the compulsory annual pilgrimage performed during the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah and is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Umrah is a voluntary pilgrimage that can be performed throughout the year and is often referred to as the “lesser pilgrimage.”
The actual rituals of Umrah — Ihram, Tawaf, Sa’i, and Halq or Taqsir — can be completed in a few hours. However, most pilgrims spend 7 to 14 days in Saudi Arabia to maximise their time in worship at the Haram.
Umrah can be performed throughout the year. However, Ramadan is considered the most spiritually rewarding time, as performing Umrah during this month holds the reward equivalent to Hajj. January to March also offer cooler temperatures and a peaceful atmosphere.
Our Umrah packages typically include return flights from the UK, hotel accommodation in both Makkah and Madinah, airport transfers, Umrah visa processing, and 24/7 customer support. Full details are listed on each individual package page.
