Umrah Packages for Large Families: How to Save on Group Bookings

The eighth person in your party costs £259. The fifth costs £949.

Why the difference is that large

Because hotel rooms hold four people, and package prices are quoted on four sharing.

A fifth traveller cannot fit into the room, so they open a second one and carry most of its cost alone. A sixth, seventh and eighth traveller then fill that same room, and each one costs less than the last.

What that means practically

Party sizes divisible by four pay £499 per person. Every other size carries a premium, and the worst is five people at £589 each.

There is a full table below, and it is the most useful thing on this page.

And the honest note about group discounts

We do not have one. Neither does anybody else, meaningfully.

The saving on a large booking comes from getting the room configuration right, not from a percentage off for volume. Any operator offering a large group discount is discounting from a higher starting price.

The short version

Four, eight and twelve people pay £499 each. Those are the efficient sizes.

The fifth, ninth and thirteenth traveller costs £949, because they open a new room.

The eighth and twelfth costs £259, because they fill one.

If you are five, finding a sixth person costs £409 rather than £499.

Children two to eleven pay a reduced rate, which changes all of this in your favour.

Why rooms decide everything

How package pricing works

Every headline price in this market is quoted per person on quad sharing. Four people, one room.

That is not a marketing choice, it is how hotels sell. They price the room rather than the head, so the cost of a room divided by four is the lowest per person figure available.

What happens when you are not four

You need a second room, and a second room costs roughly what a first one does regardless of how many people are in it.

What that shows

A single room costs almost twice what a place in a quad does, because you are paying for a whole room rather than a quarter of one.

The consequence for a large party

Your job is not to find a discount. It is to fill rooms.

A party of eight in two quads pays the same per person as a family of four. A party of nine pays £50 more each, because the ninth person opens a third room.

And why this is not obvious

Because everybody quotes per person, so a large party assumes the cost scales smoothly with headcount. It does not. It steps.

The person who is

Costs

Because

They open a new room

6th or 10th

£409

They join an empty room

7th or 11th

£379

They fill a third space

8th or 12th

£259

They complete a quad

The pattern

Every fourth person is expensive and the three after them get progressively cheaper. Then it repeats.

What that is worth knowing

If you are seven and somebody is undecided, the eighth place costs £259 rather than £499. Tell them that.

If you are four and a fifth wants to join, it costs £949. That is worth knowing before you agree to it rather than afterwards.

The best sizes

Four, eight and twelve, all at £499 per person. If your party is near one of those numbers, getting to it is worth real money.

The worst size

Five, at £589 each. A party of five pays £90 per person more than a party of four or eight, which over five people is £450.

The caveat

Children change all of this in your favour, and there is a section on that below.

A correction to something we published

A short section, because we got this wrong and it is better to fix it than to leave it.

What we said

In our post on room configurations we said that for a party of five, a triple plus a twin is usually better than a quad plus a single, because the single supplement is the largest in the range.

What the arithmetic actually says

Configuration

Working

Total

Quad plus single

Four at £499, one at £949

£2,945

Triple plus twin

Three at £579, two at £679

£3,095

So quad plus single wins

By £150. The single supplement is the largest per person figure, and putting four people at the lowest rate outweighs it.

Why we got it wrong

Because we reasoned from the supplement rather than from the total, which is the mistake this whole page exists to prevent.

The lesson

Never compare configurations on the per person supplement. Compare them on the total for your actual party, which is what we do on every quote.

And the practical version for five people

Quad plus single at £2,945, and decide who takes the single. Frequently that is a grandparent who would want their own room anyway, which turns the arithmetic into a convenience.

How children change it

The structure

Traveller

How they are priced

Adult, twelve and over

The full rate

Child, two to eleven

A reduced rate, sharing with two adults

Infant, under two

A lap infant, at minimal cost

What that does to the arithmetic

Everything above assumes adults. A party of eight that is four adults and four children pays considerably less than eight adults would.

The configuration point

Children count toward filling a room. Two adults and two children in a quad is a full room at the quad rate, with two of those four on the reduced rate.

Which makes a family of four the single most efficient booking in the entire market.

The extended family case

Two families of four is eight people in two quads at £499 per adult, with the children reduced. That is the best value large booking available and it is a very common shape.

Where it gets awkward

Odd numbers of children, or a party where the adults and children do not split neatly into fours.

Send us the exact make-up and we will work the splits. There are usually two or three sensible ones and the gap between them is frequently a few hundred pounds.

The twelve rule

A child turning twelve moves to the adult rate, and it is age at travel rather than at booking.

On a large party that can move the total noticeably, so send dates of birth rather than ages.

And the deposit

£99 per person including children. A party of eight is £792 to secure, and the balance spreads interest free when you book four or more months ahead.

Do group discounts exist

The honest answer, and it is not what most people expect.

We do not have one

There is no percentage off for booking eight people rather than four. The per person price is the same.

Why not

Because our margin runs at roughly eight to thirteen per cent and does not vary by window or party size. There is not a volume discount hiding in it.

What we do instead is check comparable UK packages every month and sit £20 under the lowest we can find, for everybody.

What about operators who advertise group discounts

Ask what the pre-discount price was. A ten per cent group discount from a price ten per cent above the market is not a discount.

The test is the same as for any quote. What is the total, for your actual party, in your actual room configuration, with the hotel named and the distance in metres.

Where the real saving is

Three places, and none of them is a discount.

  1. The room configuration, which is worth up to £90 per person between a good split and a bad one
  2. The month, which is worth up to £700 per person between the cheapest and most expensive windows
  3. Getting to a party size divisible by four, which is worth up to £90 per person

What that means

A party of eight travelling in January in two quads pays £499 each. The same eight in the last ten nights of Ramadan in a bad configuration could pay well over £1,200 each.

The month and the rooms are where large parties save. Not the negotiation.

And the thing that genuinely helps

Booking early enough to get two quads in the same hotel on the same floor, which is a logistics win rather than a financial one and matters more than people expect.

What else changes with a large party

Connecting rooms

The constraint that runs out before the hotels do. Two rooms with a door between them is a materially different arrangement to two rooms on separate floors, particularly with children.

Ask at the enquiry rather than on arrival. In school holidays they go months ahead.

Same floor, same hotel

Not guaranteed unless requested. A large party split across two hotels three hundred metres apart is a genuinely annoying trip and it happens when bookings are made late.

The transfers

Included in every package. A party of eight or more may travel on a dedicated vehicle rather than a shared coach, which is generally better and depends on the group.

Ziyarat

Included in both cities. Larger parties frequently get a vehicle to themselves, which means you set the pace rather than waiting for twenty strangers.

The visa applications

Processed together, which is simpler than it sounds. What slows a large party down is one person with an expiring passport or a missing vaccination certificate.

The practical version

Check every passport in the party for six months validity from your travel date, not from today. One expired passport delays everybody.

The vaccine

ACWY is a visa requirement for every traveller including children, and the certificate must be dated at least ten days before you arrive.

On a party of eight, book eight GP appointments as soon as you pay the deposit. This is the single most common reason a large booking runs late.

And the Nusuk permits

Each person books their own through the app. On a large party, appoint somebody to chase it, because the Rawdah slots go within minutes and one person forgetting means one person missing out.

Mosque and community groups

How they differ from a family party

Larger, usually twenty to sixty people, and the room configuration problem multiplies rather than changes.

The arithmetic still holds

A group of forty in ten quads pays £499 per person. A group of forty-two in ten quads plus a twin pays a little more each. The same stepping applies at every scale. Book Group umrah packages now !

What changes

Block room availability. Ten rooms in the same hotel on the same dates is a materially harder ask than one room, and it needs a longer lead.

The timings

Five to six months for a group booking in a normal month, against three for an individual one. Nine to twelve for Ramadan.

The organiser problem

Somebody has to hold the list, chase the passports, chase the vaccines, and collect the money. That is a real job and it is worth deciding who does it at the start.

What we do for groups

Hold the rooms on a group booking, take individual deposits rather than one large payment, and give the organiser a single point of contact.

Tell us the numbers and we will tell you what is available and what the lead time needs to be.

And the honest note

A group of forty does not get a better per person price than a family of four. It gets the same £499, because that is the quad rate and the quad rate is the quad rate.

What it gets is logistics handled and rooms held together, which is what a group actually needs.

Worked examples

Two families, eight people

Four adults and four children, in two quads.

Verdict

The most efficient large booking available

Three generations, six people

Two grandparents, two parents and two children.

A quad plus a twin at £3,354, with the grandparents in the twin. Or a triple plus a triple, which splits the family differently and costs a little more.

What we would suggest

Quad plus twin, grandparents in the twin, which is both the cheaper option and the one that gives the older travellers their own space.

A party of five

Quad plus single at £2,945, and it is £150 cheaper than triple plus twin despite the single supplement being the largest figure in the range.

Who takes the single

Usually the person who would want it anyway. A grandparent, or somebody with a medical reason, which turns the arithmetic into a convenience.

A party of nine

The awkward number. Two quads plus a single at £4,941, or a quad, a triple and a twin at £5,091.

Two quads plus a single is £150 cheaper, and again it depends who takes the single.

And the one worth mentioning to your family

If you are seven, the eighth place costs £259. If you have been meaning to invite somebody, that is the number to tell them.

Includes return flights, both hotels named in writing with the distance in metres and the nearest gate, the Saudi Umrah visa, all three transfers and guided Ziyarat in both cities.

The per person figures

£499 at four, eight and twelve. £589 at five, £559 at six, £533 at seven, £549 at nine, £535 at ten and £521 at eleven.

What that means

The gap between the best and worst party sizes is £90 per person, which over a party of five is £450.

The deposit

£99 per person. A party of eight is £792 and it fixes everybody’s price in writing.

The instalments

Interest free across the months to eight weeks before departure when you book four or more months ahead. On a large party that turns a substantial total into a manageable monthly figure per household.

How we price

We check comparable UK packages every month and sit £20 under the lowest we can find for the same nights and the same hotel tier. That applies to a party of forty exactly as it does to one person.

What to do now

  1. Send us the exact make-up, including dates of birth. Not a headcount, because the split depends on who is in the party.
  2. Check whether you are near a multiple of four. Seven going to eight costs £259 and saves everybody £34 each.
  3. Ask about connecting rooms first. They run out before the hotels do, and in school holidays they go months ahead.
  4. Check every passport for six months validity from your travel date. One expired passport delays the whole party.
  5. Book every ACWY appointment at once, as soon as the deposit is paid. It is the commonest reason a large booking runs late.
  6. Appoint somebody to chase the Nusuk permits, because each person books their own and slots go within minutes.
  7. Give yourself five to six months for a group booking, and nine to twelve for Ramadan.

The one that saves the most

The first. The gap between a good configuration and a bad one for the same party is up to £90 per person, and we cannot find it without knowing exactly who is travelling.

And the one that causes the most trouble

The fifth. On a party of eight or more, one person without a vaccination certificate ten days before arrival is a problem that affects the whole booking.

The summary

Rooms hold four, so the cost steps rather than scaling

Four, eight and twelve people pay £499 each. Every other size carries a premium and five is the worst at £589.

The fifth person costs £949 and the eighth costs £259

One opens a new room and one fills it. If you are seven and somebody is undecided, £259 is the number to tell them.

Quad plus single beats triple plus twin for five

By £150, despite the single supplement being the largest figure. We had this the wrong way round in an earlier post and this corrects it.

Group discounts are not where the saving is

We do not have one and the honest saving comes from the configuration, the month, and getting to a party size divisible by four.

And children change all of it in your favour

Two to elevens pay a reduced rate and still fill a room, which makes a family of four the most efficient booking in the market.

Large parties: 65 questions answered

Grouped by topic. Direct answer first. All figures are seven nights, three star, adult rates, off-peak.

The arithmetic

Why does the cost not scale smoothly?

Because rooms hold four and prices are quoted on four sharing. The cost steps rather than scales.

Which party sizes are cheapest?

Four, eight and twelve, all at £499 per person.

Which is worst?

Five, at £589 each. That is £90 more per person than four or eight.

What does the fifth person cost?

£949, because they open a new room and carry most of its cost alone.

And the eighth?

£259, because they complete a second quad.

Does that pattern repeat?

Every four. The ninth costs £949 and the twelfth costs £259.

What should I do with that?

If you are seven and somebody is undecided, tell them the eighth place costs £259 rather than £499.

And if we are four and a fifth wants to join?

It costs £949. Worth knowing before you agree rather than afterwards.

How much is the gap between best and worst?

£90 per person, which over a party of five is £450.

The configurations

What are the room options?

Quad for four at £499, triple for three from £579, twin for two from £679, and single occupancy from £949.

Why is a single so expensive?

Because you are paying for a whole room rather than a quarter of one.

What is best for five people?

Quad plus single at £2,945, which is £150 cheaper than triple plus twin.

Did you not say the opposite before?

We did, in our private rooms post, and it was wrong. We reasoned from the supplement rather than the total.

What is the lesson?

Never compare configurations on the per person supplement. Compare the total for your actual party.

What is best for six?

Quad plus twin at £3,354, or £559 per person.

For seven?

Quad plus triple at £3,733, or £533 per person.

For nine?

Two quads plus a single at £4,941, which is £150 cheaper than quad plus triple plus twin.

Who should take the single?

Usually somebody who would want their own room anyway. A grandparent, or somebody with a medical reason.

Children

How are children priced?

Two to eleven at a reduced rate sharing with two adults. Under twos are lap infants. Twelve and over pay the adult rate.

Do children count toward filling a room?

Yes. Two adults and two children in a quad is a full room at the quad rate.

What is the most efficient booking?

A family of four. Full room, lowest rate, and two of the four on reduced rates.

And for extended families?

Two families of four in two quads. The best value large booking available and a very common shape.

What if the numbers do not split neatly?

Send the exact make-up. There are usually two or three sensible splits and the gap between them is frequently a few hundred pounds.

What happens at twelve?

They move to the adult rate, and it is age at travel rather than at booking.

Why do you want dates of birth?

Because on a large party a child crossing twelve before departure moves the total noticeably.

What is the deposit for children?

£99 each, the same as adults.

Group discounts

Do you offer a group discount?

No. There is no percentage off for booking eight rather than four.

Why not?

Our margin runs at roughly eight to thirteen per cent and does not vary by window or party size. There is no volume discount hiding in it.

What about operators who advertise one?

Ask what the pre-discount price was. Ten per cent off a price ten per cent above the market is not a discount.

How do I test a group quote?

The total, for your actual party, in your actual configuration, with the hotel named and the distance in metres.

So where is the saving?

The room configuration, the month, and getting to a party size divisible by four. None of them is a discount.

Which saves the most?

The month, by a distance. Up to £700 per person between the cheapest and most expensive windows.

Does a group of forty get a better rate than a family of four?

No. Both get the quad rate, because the quad rate is the quad rate.

What does a group get then?

Logistics handled and rooms held together, which is what a group actually needs.

Practical logistics

Can we get connecting rooms?

At many properties, and they run out before the hotels do. Ask at the enquiry rather than on arrival.

Will we be in the same hotel?

Not guaranteed unless requested. A party split across two hotels three hundred metres apart is a genuinely annoying trip.

And the same floor?

Also worth requesting. It costs nothing to ask and matters more than people expect.

What about transfers?

Included. A party of eight or more may travel on a dedicated vehicle rather than a shared coach.

And Ziyarat?

Included in both cities, and larger parties frequently get a vehicle to themselves so you set the pace.

How do the visas work?

Processed together, which is simpler than it sounds.

What slows a large party down?

One person with an expiring passport or a missing vaccination certificate.

What passport validity do we need?

Six months from your travel date, not from today. Check every passport in the party.

When should we book the vaccines?

All of them, as soon as the deposit is paid. It is the commonest reason a large booking runs late.

Do children need the vaccine?

Yes. ACWY is a visa requirement for every traveller and the certificate must be dated at least ten days before arrival.

How do the Nusuk permits work?

Each person books their own through the app. Appoint somebody to chase it, because Rawdah slots go within minutes.

Mosque and community groups

Does the arithmetic change at scale?

No. Forty people in ten quads pay £499 each. The same stepping applies at every size.

What does change?

Block room availability. Ten rooms in the same hotel on the same dates is a harder ask than one.

How far ahead should a group book?

Five to six months in a normal month, and nine to twelve for Ramadan.

Who should organise it?

Somebody has to hold the list and chase the documents. Decide who at the start rather than assuming.

Do you take one payment or individual ones?

Individual deposits rather than one large payment, with a single point of contact for the organiser.

Can you hold rooms while people decide?

On a group booking, within reason. Tell us the numbers and we will tell you what is available.

Is there a minimum group size?

No. The arithmetic on this page applies from four people upward.

Worked examples

Two families, eight people?

Two quads, two adults and two children in each. From £499 per adult with children reduced, and £792 secures it.

Three generations, six people?

Quad plus twin at £3,354, with the grandparents in the twin. Cheaper than two triples and better for the older travellers.

A party of five?

Quad plus single at £2,945, and decide who takes the single.

A party of nine?

Two quads plus a single at £4,941.

A party of ten?

Two quads plus a twin at £5,350, or £535 per person.

A party of twelve?

Three quads at £5,988, back to £499 per person.

Prices and booking

What does a party of eight cost?

From £3,992 at three star and £5,032 at four star, seven nights, adults.

What is the deposit?

£99 per person. A party of eight is £792 and it fixes everybody’s price in writing.

Can we pay monthly?

Interest free across the months to eight weeks before departure, when you book four or more months ahead.

Does everybody pay separately?

They can. We take individual deposits and individual instalments, which is easier than one household collecting from everybody.

What should I send you?

The exact make-up including dates of birth, not a headcount. The split depends on who is travelling.

Will you show me the options?

Two or three sensible configurations and what each costs, so you can see the gap rather than take our word for it.

How do you price against competitors?

We check comparable UK packages monthly and sit £20 under the lowest we find, for a party of forty exactly as for one person.
