There are three Eid trips, not one
Most agencies sell exactly one. You buy the last ten nights of Ramadan, Eid happens at the end, and you fly home a day later exhausted and considerably poorer.
That is a genuinely wonderful trip and it is the most expensive thing in Umrah travel. It is also not the only way to be at the Haram for Eid.
And one of them is the best value week of the year
Here is the thing almost nobody exploits. Within two or three days of Eid, the entire Ramadan crowd goes home. Millions of people leave and the city empties.
So you can arrive a couple of days before Eid, pray Eid al-Fitr at the Haram with everybody else, and then have a nearly empty Makkah to yourself for a week, at prices that fall away as the crowd does.
On that trip the per-night cost drops the longer you stay, which happens at no other point in the calendar. There is a table below showing exactly how far it falls.

Why there are two possible dates
Ramadan runs 29 or 30 days depending on the sighting of the moon. If the moon is sighted on the night of the 29th, Eid is the next day. If it is not, Ramadan completes 30 days and Eid falls a day later.
This is not a technicality for somebody flying from Britain. It means the single most important day of your trip is not fixed until the night before, and it has consequences for how you book. There is a full section on this below.

2. Eid and after

You arrive a day or two before Eid, catch the very end of Ramadan and the takbir the night before, pray Eid at the Haram, and then stay on as the city empties.

What happens after Eid
Within two or three days of Eid morning, millions of people go home. Flights out of Jeddah and Madinah are packed for seventy-two hours, hotels empty, and the city changes character completely.
The Haram that was impossible to enter on the 28th of Ramadan has space in it by the 12th of March. The Mataf you were carried around is walkable. You can perform Tawaf at your own pace at almost any hour.
What it does to the price
Every night you add after Eid is a cheap Shawwal night rather than an expensive Ramadan one. So the per-night cost falls as the trip gets longer, which happens nowhere else in the calendar.

Look at what that means. Seven extra nights cost you £120, because those seven nights sit in one of the quietest weeks of the year.
What you get and what you give up
You get Eid at the Haram, a Makkah that empties around you, mild March weather at around 22 to 32 degrees, and prices that make no sense anywhere else.
You give up Laylat al-Qadr and the last ten nights. That is a real thing to give up and we are not going to pretend it is not. Whether it matters more than everything above is your call rather than ours.
Who this suits
Families with children, who get Eid without the crush. Anyone who has done a Ramadan Umrah before and found the crowds difficult. First-time pilgrims who want the occasion without being overwhelmed. And anybody looking at the last-ten-nights prices and thinking it cannot be done.
The six fasts
One more thing that makes staying on worthwhile for some people. It is widely taught, on a narration reported in Sahih Muslim, that fasting six days of Shawwal after Ramadan carries the reward of fasting the whole year.
Plenty of pilgrims who stay past Eid observe them there. Whether and how you do that is a matter for someone qualified rather than for us, and your local imam is the right person to ask.
What Eid at the Haram is actually like
The night before
Takbir from the moment the moon is confirmed, through the night and into the morning. It carries across the whole city rather than being confined to the mosque, and it is the part people remember as vividly as the prayer itself.
The prayer
Held shortly after sunrise. There is no adhan and no iqamah for Eid prayer, so you need to be in place rather than waiting to be called.
The scale is difficult to convey. The mosque, the courtyard, the upper levels and the surrounding streets, all of it, at once.
Getting a place
Go very early. Not an hour early, several hours. People who arrive after Fajr are generally praying outside the building, which is entirely valid and is a different experience to being inside it.
If you have booked close in, this is the morning that justifies the money. A hotel at 200 metres means you can be in position before Fajr and go back afterwards. A hotel a kilometre out means a long walk in a very large crowd in both directions.
Afterwards
A long, slow, good-natured dispersal. Families everywhere, children in new clothes, food, and an atmosphere that has nothing to do with the intensity of the previous ten days.
For women
Designated areas are provided and are generally busy. Go early for the same reasons, and agree a meeting point with your group beforehand, because finding each other afterwards in that crowd is close to impossible.
Makkah or Madinah for Eid
Genuinely a decision, and most people never consider the second option.
Eid in Makkah
Larger, louder, more overwhelming, and the one most people picture. If you are already there for the last ten nights, you will be in Makkah anyway.
Eid in Madinah
Considerably calmer. Masjid an-Nabawi is busy but the area around it is flat, the crowds are more manageable and you are far more likely to be inside the building for the prayer.
For families with young children, and for anyone travelling with elderly parents, Madinah for Eid is the better trip and almost nobody offers it as a choice.
Doing both
On a 14 night Eid-and-after package there is room to be in Makkah for Eid and then move to Madinah for the quiet week afterwards, or the reverse. Tell us which city you want to wake up in on Eid morning and we build the split around it.
The transfer timing
One practical note. Do not schedule the Makkah to Madinah coach for the day after Eid. The roads are heavy, the airports are chaos, and it is the one day of the year where a four and a half hour journey can become a great deal longer.
The moon sighting problem, and how to book around it
This is the most practical section on the page and we have not seen another UK agency address it.
The problem stated plainly
Eid is either the 9th or the 10th of March 2027 and nobody will know which until the night of the 8th.
If you book flights assuming the 9th and Ramadan completes thirty days, you have flown home the morning of Eid. People do this every single year.
How we build around it
Three rules, and we apply them to every Eid booking.
First, we never schedule a departure on either possible Eid day or the day immediately after. Your return flight sits at least two days clear of the later of the two dates.
Second, on an Eid-and-after package we build the arrival to cover the earlier date. You arrive before the first possible Eid rather than the second, so whichever way the sighting goes, you are there.
Third, we tell you both dates in writing at booking, so you know what you have covered rather than assuming.
What this costs you
Usually one extra night, occasionally two. On a trip built around a single morning, that is the cheapest insurance available.
What to tell your employer
Book the leave to cover both possibilities. Explaining to a manager in advance that the date depends on a moon sighting is much easier than ringing them on the day.
If your dates cannot flex
Tell us at the start. We would rather build the trip differently, or suggest Madinah where the crowds are smaller and being slightly off is less costly, than have you fly home the day before the thing you came for.

The worst departure days of the year
The two or three days immediately after Eid are the heaviest outbound days out of Jeddah and Madinah, by a distance. The entire Ramadan population of both cities leaves inside seventy-two hours.
What that means
Long check-in queues, slow immigration, packed aircraft and very little flexibility if anything goes wrong. Fares on those specific days are also at their peak.
How to avoid it
Stay on. That is the entire argument of the Eid-and-after package in one sentence. You let the crowd leave without you, you get a calm airport a week later, and the nights in between cost almost nothing.
If you must fly out immediately
Allow four hours rather than three, expect the coach to the airport to take longer than usual, and do not book a tight connection.

How the price is set

Eid morning itself is priced as Ramadan, not as Shawwal. The hotels do not drop their rates until the crowd has actually gone. So the two nights around Eid are the expensive part of an Eid-and-after package, and they are the part that sells out.

The post-Ramadan dip
Demand collapses after Eid because everybody who wanted to go has just been. Mid-March into April is genuinely one of the cheapest windows of the entire year, with comfortable weather and a quiet Haram.

Umrah is suspended for a period around Hajj each year and Hajj 2027 falls in May. If you are looking at late April or May, confirm the dates with us before committing. Detail on the visa page.
